In this WinkBeds vs. Casper mattress comparison, we’re going to explore what differentiates the flagship mattresses from these two popular online mattress companies. Read on to learn their similarities and differences, which one is a good fit for you, and how the policies compare for these two brands.
The flagship Casper is an affordable memory foam mattress that does an exceptional job supporting the spine. The WinkBed is better for hot sleepers, heavy people, and people who like soft mattresses.
WinkBed is best for… | Casper is best for… |
Plus-size people | Budget shoppers |
Hot sleepers | Couples |
Elderly people | People with lower back pain |
The WinkBed mattress has four different firmness options: softer, luxury-firm, firmer, and plus, which we rated on our firmness scale at 4/10, 6/10, 7.5/10, and 8/10, respectively. The Casper Original is a medium-firm mattress, with its firmness falling at a 6 on the 1-10 firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest.
Medium-firm beds like the Casper and luxury-firm WinkBed are the most popular mattresses. This level of firmness is known as universal firmness because it’s what most people prefer, especially back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers typically desire a softer top layer with greater pressure relief, such as the softer WinkBeds mattress.
An average-weight person is going to sink slightly into the comfort layers of the Casper without feeling completely enveloped by foam. The WinkBed is a medium-soft bed that hugs the body in a cloud-like embrace.
The more you weigh, the softer a mattress feels. For this reason, most plus-size people are likely to prefer the feel of the WinkBed Plus over the Casper or other WinkBed models. Lightweight folks, on the other hand, may lean towards the softer WinkBed or the Casper mattress. To learn about other WinkBeds models, see our WinkBeds mattress reviews.
WinkBed Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 5 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 4 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 4 | 4 |
Casper Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 4 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 4 |
Average-weight back sleepers will probably be most comfortable on the luxury-firm WinkBed, the same with stomach and side sleepers who will enjoy pressure relief. It is a responsive mattress, which is also great for combination sleepers.
The Casper keeps the hips and neck in line, and it offers a decent amount of soft comfort for average-weight back sleepers, similar to side and stomach sleepers because their hips won’t sink in too far. Combination sleepers can sleep in whatever position they find comfortable while being properly supported.
Heavyweight back sleepers will be coziest on the firmer or plus WinkBed, similar to stomach and combination sleepers to provide that extra support to keep the hips elevated. Side sleepers may need more support and elevation to prevent that sinking feeling.
Heavyweight back sleepers may experience more sinkage in the WinkBed. As for stomach and side sleepers, the softer foam at the shoulders may sink in too far. It is not recommended for combination sleepers as heavier folks may find it hard to move around and get comfy.
Lightweight back sleepers will probably be most comfortable on the WinkBed, ensuring their natural spine curvature. Similar to stomach, side, and combination sleepers, providing ample support and firmness to get that pressure relief.
Casper offers to keep the hips and neck in line and a decent amount of soft comfort for lightweight back sleepers, while stomach and side sleepers will benefit from Zoned Support, meaning the mattress is softer around the shoulders and more firm near the hips and lower parts of the back. Lightweight combination sleepers will enjoy the responsive foam in the top layer that makes it easy to move around.
The WinkBed is a luxury hybrid mattress with thicker comfort layers than your average hybrid bed. Casper’s layers create a light conforming feel that falls between sleeping “on” and “in” the bed.

The WinkBed is available in four different firmness options. We particularly love it for hot sleepers because of its great temperature regulation, and it’s great for combination sleepers because of its responsiveness.

The original mattress that made the brand famous, the Casper is known for its design that suits all sleep positions. Casper’s Zoned Support feature is engineered to support the hips, shoulders, and back to keep the spine aligned. At an affordable price point, too, this mattress is hard to beat.
Nerd Score
4.8/5
The WinkBed is more breathable than the Casper mattress. The increased airflow sweeps away stored body heat, which helps support temperature regulation over the night. If you’re someone who often wakes up hot and sweaty, we recommend the WinkBed.
Both the WinkBed and Casper do a good job of limiting motion transfer, but Casper is the winner here. The WinkBed’s coils share a bit more motion than the Casper’s foam layers. However, most sleepers find that the thick comfort layers of the WinkBed do a good enough job to help them sleep soundly.
Both of these mattresses have edges that are quite comfy to sleep along. When it comes to sitting on the edge or using it for support, the WinkBed is slightly sturdier than the Casper. The durable innerspring coil construction brings a bit more stability when putting lots of weight on the edges.
Side sleepers and people with joint pain are the two main groups that look for a mattress with extra cushion. Soft foam at the hips and shoulders minimizes pressure and pain in these sensitive areas.
The WinkBed wins in this category. Not only does this mattress come in four firmness options, with the softer version great for most side sleepers, but it also has softer foam at the hips and shoulders. In comparison, the Casper has a more plush feel at the shoulders, but firmer support at the hips. For people with hip pain or who experience pressure at the hips when side sleeping, the WinkBed offers superior relief.
Plus-size people are best suited by the WinkBed Plus version thanks to extra support that minimizes sinkage for heavier folks. The Casper has a slight edge over the WinkBed for lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers thanks to firmer foam at the hips. In comparison, the WinkBed’s softer foam in this area is better for side sleepers.
Both the WinkBed and Casper do a good job at supporting the spines of back sleepers who weigh less than 230 pounds.
Thanks to the added support of innerspring coils, the WinkBed mattress is more durable than the Casper. Additionally, heavyweight people need denser foams to reduce sagging over time, and the WinkBed Plus offers this perk.

The original WinkBed’s four firmness options lead us to recommend it over the Casper for side sleeping and heavier folks. It’s also cooler and more responsive, which makes it easier to move around. The Casper’s reinforced midsection delivers better alignment for stomach sleepers, and its all-foam construction means even better motion isolation than the WinkBed.
Casper mattresses are unlikely to sag in the first seven to ten years of ownership so long as they are set atop a supportive base. Casper covers body indentations of greater than 1” during the 10-year warranty, so you are covered in the case of a deep impression.
Everyone has different needs, but overall the WinkBed is a good mattress for combination sleepers and for hot sleepers, because of its responsiveness and cooling capabilities. Additionally, having different firmness options makes the WinkBed a good mattress for a wider variety of sleepers.
Casper recommends that you don’t use a box spring with their beds. Instead, they recommend an adjustable base, a slatted base with slats less than 4” apart, a foundation, or a platform base. A box spring isn’t as supportive as these other options and may cause damage to the bed.
