The Saatva and Winkbed are both hybrid mattresses with foam comfort layers and coil support layers. These American-made products are available in three firmness options for each mattress: the WinkBed is available in softer, luxury firm, firmer, and plus, and the Saatva is offered in plush soft, luxury firm, and firm.

Now that we’ve ran through a quick comparison of these hybrid beds, let’s talk more about how they feel:
At Mattress Nerd, we like to measure firmness on a scale of 1–10. For example, a 1 is as soft as it gets, and a 10 is like sleeping on bricks.
With that in mind, both the WinkBed and Saatva mattresses are medium-firm, which is considered the universal firmness level because it blends pressure relief and support. If you are a heavier sleeper, these beds will likely feel closer to medium than medium-firm. Those with petite body types will probably find these beds a bit firmer.
However, both of these mattresses also com with several firmness options: the WinkBed has a 4/10, 6/10, 7.5/10, and an extra firm 8/10, and the Saatva includes a soft 3/10, 6.5/10, and an 8/10.
Both of these mattresses feature similar hybrid constructions, so, regardless of whether you go with the WinkBed or Saatva, you’ll be getting a firm, lifted, and cooling mattress. That said, the WinkBed does feel a little more solid and firm, while the Saatva is more breathable and a little more friendly to lightweight sleepers.
If you’re a heavier sleeper in general, you’ll likely find the WinkBed more supportive and comfortable. However, if you’re a lightweight side sleeper who struggles to “sink” down into firmer beds, the Saatva may be best for you. Also, while the WinkBed performs best for back sleepers, the Saatva’s lumbar support is great for stomach sleepers of all sizes.
[Publisher: Insert a photo of our tester on each mattress in between the paragraphs for Mattress A and Mattress B.]WinkBed Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 5 |
Saatva Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 4 |
This one is close, and it really comes down to sleeping position. If you’re an average-weight back sleeper, both beds are great options for you, but, if you’re a stomach sleeper, the Saatva mattress will feel more supportive. And, for side sleepers, the WinkBed will feel just a little bit better at supporting your shoulders and hips.
For heavyweight sleepers, more firmness tends to be better. So, in this case, the WinkBed is the better option across the board, regardless of whether you’re a side sleeper, a stomach sleeper, or a back sleeper. Additionally, for heavyweight stomach sleepers to get the best experience possible, we recommend even upping the firmness option even more.
On the other hand, lightweight sleepers do better on softer, more pressure relieving beds. For the Saatva and WinkBed, lightweight back and stomach sleepers are able to get as much firmness as they need from either bed. But, for lightweight side sleepers, the more firm WinkBed actually comes out ahead, since it’s a taller bed with more support. However, the difference isn’t glaring, so it’s mostly a matter of preference for lighter sleepers.
The WinkBed and Saatva mattresses come in a variety of firmness levels, although they both feature a similar construction of euro top, supportive foam, and hybrid steel coils. In terms of height, the Saatva ranges from 11.5 inches tall to 13 inches tall, and WinkBed comes in at 13.5 inches.
WinkBed Mattress Materials | Saatva Mattress Materials |

The Saatva mattress is wrapped in a breathable organic cotton cover and topped with a plush soft euro pillow top. This cushioning top layer is designed to keep stress off of pressure points.
The mattress cover of the WinkBed is an organic eucalyptus cover that wicks away moisture while you sleep and improves the breathability of the mattress.
For the Saatva mattress, a thin memory foam layer and wire frame are sandwiched between the coil layers in the center third of the mattress. They add extra lower back support, particularly for back and stomach sleepers.
Next up, the WinkBed features lumbar support foam that works to reduce pain and pressure on the back. Also, the WinkBed has cooling gel-infused foam that regulates body temperature without heating up like regular foam.
In the support layers, the WinkBed has individually wrapped coils that give the bed a lifted and bouncy feel, along with improving airflow and breathability.
Next, the base of the Saatva is a steel coil system that prevents the mattress from sagging. A thin memory foam layer and wire frame are sandwiched between the coil layers in the center third of the mattress. They add extra lower back support, particularly for back and stomach sleepers.

Hybrid mattresses run cooler than memory foam mattresses, thanks to breathable coil layers. We think the Saatva mattress is a tad bit cooler than the WinkBed, though hot sleepers won’t go wrong on either bed. For more cooling options, see our picks for the best cooling mattress.
Couples and those who co-sleep are the most concerned with motion isolation. Memory foam mattresses typically do the best job of absorbing motion, while innerspring mattresses are notoriously bouncy.
Both of the beds in this mattress comparison are hybrid mattresses that combine foam and coils. Neither does an exceptional job at reducing motion transfer, but the Saatva isolates motion a bit better. Check out the best mattresses for couples for other options that isolate motion well.
If you sleep with someone else, chances are you’ve had to fight for mattress space at least once. If you have a mattress with good edge support, you’ll be well-supported even if you find yourself hugging the edge of the bed.
The Saatva and WinkBed mattresses both have reinforced edges, so you’ll get good edge support on either, but we felt a little more supported on the WinkBed.
The best mattresses for side sleepers and those with heavier body types are those that provide lots of pressure relief. Soft to medium-firm mattresses have the best pressure relief, but the Saatva and WinkBed mattresses only offer moderate pressure relief. With that said, if you’re looking for a mattress that cushions your curvier bits, the WinkBed mattress does a better job.
Choosing the right mattress, depending on your sleeping position and body size, is key for avoiding back pain. A mattress that keeps your spine in a neutral “S” shape promotes good spinal alignment—aka, good sleeping posture. Both of these mattresses keep your spine aligned, but the Saatva outperformed the WinkBed in this category by a fraction.
Mattress durability is determined by a mattress’s materials, construction, and level of use. Innerspring mattresses are the least durable, and latex or air beds last the longest. You can expect most hybrid mattresses to last up to seven years.
We consider the Saatva and WinkBed mattresses to be extremely durable; plus, they both give you a Lifetime warranty.
WinkBeds builds their mattresses to order at their Wisconsin factory, so delivery takes up to two weeks. Shipping is free in the contiguous U.S. Each WinkBeds customer gets one 120-night trial period and free returns, as long as you sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights. There are no return fees, but exchanges cost $49 for a used mattress recycling fee.
Your exchanged mattress comes with a new 60-night trial period. The WinkBeds’ mattress Lifetime warranty enables you to receive a replacement mattress if yours is deemed defective.
Saatva mattresses don’t have the bed-in-a-box delivery typical of online mattress companies. Instead, you get free white glove delivery and old mattress removal with your Saatva mattress purchase. All customers also receive a 365-night trial period, which includes free returns and exchanges (minus a $99 transportation fee). Exchanged mattresses even get a new sleep trial, which is rare among even the best online mattress retailers.
The Saatva mattress is protected by a Lifetime warranty. If your mattress develops covered defects during the first two years, you can receive a new mattress for free. After that, Saatva offers to repair and recover defective mattresses for just $99. You can also request to keep your defective mattress and buy a discounted new one under the Fairness Replacement Option.

Both of these hybrid mattresses keep you cool and well supported. They have similar price tags, but you’ll save more on the Saatva mattress.
If you’re a stomach sleeper, either bed will keep your lower back supported, but if you go with Saatva, choose the firmest version. The same is true for back sleepers. Side sleepers should go with either the WinkBed or the softer Saatva. Lastly, if you sleep with a partner, the Saatva does a better job of reducing motion transfer.
Everyone has different needs, but overall the WinkBed is a good mattress for combination sleepers and for hot sleepers because of its responsiveness and cooling capabilities. Having different firmness options makes the WinkBed a good mattress for a wider variety of sleepers.
We think so! Just make sure that you are choosing the right mattress model and firmness level for your needs. Though it’s a luxury brand and therefore high in price, we love Saatva for their high-quality materials, durable designs, commitment to manufacturing in the U.S., generous trial periods and warranties, and free white glove delivery.
As we’ve said in our reviews, the motion isolation on these beds could be better. But we’d recommend the Saatva over the WinkBed if you’re set on choosing between the two for you and your partner.
