TEMPUR-Cloud vs. TEMPUR-breeze: Firmness & Feel Differences
In this section, we’ll talk about how the TEMPUR-Cloud and TEMPUR-breeze compare against each other when it comes to firmness and feel.
What’s the Firmness Of the TEMPUR-Cloud & TEMPUR-breeze Mattresses?
At Mattress Nerd, we measure mattress firmness using a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being as soft as a cloud and 10 being as firm as a concrete wall. That said, we gave the TEMPUR-Cloud a rating of 6/10 or medium firm. On the other hand, we gave TEMPUR-breeze a 5/10 or a true medium rating, bordering on the softer side.
What Do the TEMPUR-Cloud & TEMPUR-breeze Mattresses Feel Like?
Even though it has a hybrid construction, the TEMPUR-Cloud has that traditional memory foam feel that’s soft and slightly hugging. However, you won’t feel like you’re sinking too much into the comfort layer since you’ll immediately feel the support and lift of the springy coil base. It’s also very cool to sleep on, partly because of its cooling cover and breathable coil system.
The TEMPUR-breeze also has that classic memory foam feel, but the soft, sinking feel is more prominent because of its medium-soft firmness. Lying down on it, we felt that the foam layers closely contoured to the body’s natural curves. Compared to the TEMPUR-Cloud, this mattress retains more heat.
What’s It Like to Sleep On the TEMPUR-Cloud & TEMPUR-PROBreeze Mattresses?
In terms of body types, the -Cloud is a better fit for average-weight sleepers and some heavyweight sleepers, while the softer -breeze better accommodates lightweight sleepers. Cloud’s medium-firm feel and hybrid construction offers better back and hip support for back and stomach sleepers, while the -breeze’s soft, contouring foam layers will feel the best for side sleepers.
The TEMPUR-Cloud vs. TEMPUR-breeze Mattresses By Body Type
TEMPUR-Cloud Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 5 | 4 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 4 |
TEMPUR-breeze Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 5 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 3 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 2 | 1 | 3 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)
We think average-weight back sleepers will feel most comfortable on the -Cloud mattress because of its spring and supportive coil base. Side sleepers will sleep comfortably on either mattress, but we think the softer -breeze mattress will provide better pressure relief for their shoulders and hips.
Average-weight stomach sleepers will need a firm mattress that will keep their hips lifted and aligned with their spine, and the -Cloud mattress is a good match for that. For combination sleepers, the -Cloud mattress is the more responsive mattress.
Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)
We don’t really recommend the -breeze model for heavyweight sleepers of all sleeping positions since we predict that they’ll sink too far into its soft, foam layers. Some side sleepers may fare well on the -breeze, but some may probably feel like they need a firmer option. Between the two, the TEMPUR-Cloud provides better support for heavyweight sleepers.
Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)
Lightweight back and side sleepers will sleep well on either mattress, but we think the -breeze will feel more comfortable because of its softer profile. However, stomach sleepers will probably prefer the slightly firmer foam layers of the -Cloud model. Combination sleepers will be happy with either choice, but those who toss and turn will move around easier on the TEMPUR-Cloud.
Differences In Mattress Construction
The TEMPUR-Cloud mattress is a 10” hybrid foam mattress, while the -breeze is a 12” all-foam mattress. Aside from that, here’s a closer look at how each mattress is constructed.
TEMPUR-Cloud Mattress Materials | TEMPUR-breeze Mattress Materials |
Stretch Mattress Cover | SmartClimate Dual-layer Cover |

Tempur Support Layer | – |
Coil Support Layer + Foam Base Layer | PROBreeze Polyfoam Base |
Cover
The TEMPUR-Cloud’s cover is made from a stretchy fabric that has moisture-wicking capabilities to keep the sleeper cool, while the -breeze’s SmartClimate Cover is made from something called Phase Change Material that adapts to body temperature for a temperature-neutral feel.
Comfort Layers
Both mattresses’ comfort layers are made from soft memory foam that contours closely to the body’s natural curves and helps relieve pressure.
Support Layers
The TEMPUR-Cloud has a coil layer that’s supported by a thick foam base, while the TEMPUR-breeze has a high-density polyfoam base.

TEMPUR-Cloud vs. TEMPUR-breeze Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences
Temperature
If you’re a hot sleeper, you’re going to want a mattress with cooling capabilities (or at least, temperature-regulating features) if you want a good night’s sleep.
Between the two, the TEMPUR-Cloud has better cooling capabilities thanks to its hybrid coil-and-foam construction, which facilitates better airflow and heat dissipation. Though the TEMPUR-breeze also does a good job of keeping cool, we felt that its foam layers got a bit warm after a while.
Motion Transfer
If you’re sleeping with a partner or pet, a mattress with low motion transfer should prevent your sleep from getting interrupted.
Fortunately, both Tempur-Pedic mattresses have great motion isolation, thanks to their thick foam layers. Despite having a springy coil base, the TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid does a great job of absorbing and minimizing motion transfer. The same can be said for the -breeze, which also has thick and dense foam layers that have low motion transfer.
Edge Support
Edge support is an important factor to consider if you want to maximize your mattress space or if you want to be able to easily get in and out of bed. You’ll want the edges of your mattress to hold up, especially when you rest your entire weight on it.
The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid got an okay rating from us, which is neither bad nor good. It holds up fairly well when you lie down on its sides, although we did notice some sagging. Sitting down on the sides, however, caused it to sink quite a bit.
On the other hand, the TEMPUR-breeze doesn’t have good edge support, despite having thick foam layers. It doesn’t have the TEMPUR-Cloud’s supportive coil system to add extra support on the sides, so the sagging was more noticeable.
Pressure Relief
The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid has good pressure relief, thanks to its supportive foam layers. We felt that it did a good job of relieving tension off the pressure points and supporting a healthy, neutral spine alignment. However, we don’t think it’s a good match for strict stomach sleepers or sleepers weighing above 230 lbs.
The TEMPUR-breeze also provides great pressure relief, but mostly for lightweight sleepers and some average-weight sleepers. Heavier folks will probably sink more into the foam layers, which could have the opposite effect and create pressure build-up in certain areas.
Pain Relief
If you’ve ever woken up with a sore back or an aching shoulder, there’s a big chance that your mattress may be the culprit. Getting a mattress with great pain relieving capabilities can help alleviate the pain and even prevent it from getting worse.
Fortunately, both mattresses scored well in our pain relief tests. Pressure maps showed that there was minimal pressure build-up for lightweight to average-weight sleepers for both the -Cloud and -breeze. For those with back pain, we recommend the Cloud, but if you want relief for your aching shoulder or hips, choose the -breeze.
Durability
Similar to most hybrid mattresses, the TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid will probably last you around 8 to 10 years, depending on the regular wear and tear it goes through. For the TEMPUR-breeze, expect it to last you around 6 to 8 years. As they’re from the same company, both mattresses come with a 10-year warranty.

Our Final Take
The TEMPUR-Cloud and TEMPUR-breeze are both great mattress options from Tempur-Pedic. However, they each have strong points that make them the better choice for specific types of sleepers.
If you’re a back sleeper looking for a mattress with good back support, the -Cloud mattress should be the better pick. We also recommend it to combination sleepers who want a responsive mattress and hot sleepers who want to sleep cool at night. But if you’re a strict side sleeper or someone who loves the classic hugging feel of memory foam, we think you’ll sleep comfortably on the -breeze mattress. Both mattresses are also great for those dealing with body pain; the -Cloud for people with back pain and the -breeze for those with hip and shoulder pain.
