Who Should Steer Clear of the Sapira Hybrid Mattress

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

The Sapira Hybrid is an excellent bed crafted for the average sleeper. With a robust comfort system, there’s plenty of cushion for most back, stomach, and side sleepers. And thanks to durable foams and strong innerspring coils, the Sapira hybrid is supportive enough for bigger bodies. It’s easy to move around on, sleeps cool, and works well enough for most couples.

While most sleepers are likely to enjoy the Sapira Hybrid, it doesn’t have the soft feel that many side sleepers prefer. Fortunately, Leesa mattresses come with a 100-night sleep trial, so you can give the Sapira Hybrid a thorough test run in your home before making a final call.

Sapira Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel

Sapira Hybrid Mattress Firmness

The Sapira Hybrid is a medium-firm mattress, which is the firmness level preferred by most sleepers. On a 1–10 firmness scale, with 10 being the firmest, the Sapira Hybrid falls at a 6/10, so it works for most types of sleepers.

What Does the Sapira Hybrid Feel Like?

The Sapira Hybrid has a balanced feel with luxurious, hugging cushioning and sturdy support, fitting the needs of most shoppers. When you lie down on the Leesa, the soft top layer and contouring memory foam second layer allow some sinkage, but not so much that you feel like you’re sleeping “in” the bed. The bouncy innerspring coils bring responsiveness, so it’s easy to move around and settle in.

What Sleeping Position Is the Sapira Hybrid Best For?

Body Type:Back SleepersStomach SleepersSide Sleepers
Lightweight (< 130 lbs):545
Average-weight (130–230 lbs):534
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs):323

1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers tend to enjoy medium-firm mattresses like the Sapira Hybrid. The memory foam transition layer brings contouring and the innerspring coil system targeted support, delivering an excellent surface for back sleepers of all body types. Lightweight and average-weight back sleepers get sufficient cushion while heavyweight folks find the support they need.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers usually need a softer mattress that can cradle their pressure points. The Sapira Hybrid is medium-firm and uses pressure-relieving foams to reduce tension and soreness. Most average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers should enjoy this mattress, but some lightweight sleepers may not sink into the bed as much as they’d like to.

For more options, see our best mattresses for side sleepers list.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers sleep best on beds with a touch of softness paired with reliable support at the hips. The Sapira Hybrid has a nice balance of soft foam and supportive coils for a surface that’s great for lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers. Heavyweight stomach sleepers may find their hips sinking in too low, causing lower back discomfort.

Combination Sleepers

The best mattresses for combination sleepers are easy to move around on because these sleepers often change from one position to the another at night. In addition to having a responsive construction, the Sapira Hybrid is a good pick for all sleeping positions and every body type, accommodating a wide range of combination sleepers.

Sapira Hybrid Mattress Performance

Is The Sapira Hybrid Mattress Cooling?

The Sapira Hybrid is one of the best cooling mattresses. The top layer is perforated and the support layer consists of airy innerspring coils. Together, these layers provide airflow that sweeps excess body heat away from the surface, keeping sleepers cool and dry. While there is a layer of memory foam—a material known for sleeping hot—the rest of the layers make this one of the best hybrid mattresses for hot sleepers.

Edge Support

The Sapira Hybrid offers great support. Its durable steel coils and high-density foams yield a mattress supportive enough for all body types. These same materials ensure even support across the entire mattress surface, so the edges are plenty supportive for lying or sitting on. If the Sapira Hybrid had reinforced edges, it would receive a 5/5 for edge support.

Responsiveness

The Sapira Hybrid has a responsive surface, meaning it quickly adapts to movements. We love that it facilitates ease of movement. This combination allows those who move around a lot to do so without waking up.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

The right mattress is hard enough to find when it’s just for one person. Once you add in a partner, you need a bed that supports both of your bodies while also dampening motion transfer so light sleepers don’t awake at every movement. What’s more, some couples prefer a somewhat bouncy mattress instead of a hugging memory foam bed.

The Sapira Hybrid is a good mattress for couples. It has a springy coil base that makes it easy to move around on for sex, and the thick layers of foam deliver average motion isolation to help you both sleep well. Additionally, the Leesa is a suitable bed for people of different body types and sleeping positions, and few couples have identical needs.

Noise

You can hear the coils as you move around on the mattress, so be aware of that if it is of concern to you.

Pain Relief

People with back pain should prioritize spinal alignment when shopping for a mattress. Side sleepers require adequate give at the hips and shoulders to keep the lumbar spine supported and not kinked. Back sleepers need a contouring bed, typically a medium-firm surface that cradles the lower back while supporting the lumbar region. Stomach sleepers need a mattress that doesn’t allow the hips to bow out of alignment but with a bit of softness for comfort.

The Sapira Hybrid is one of few mattresses that does a good job keeping the spine supported in every sleeping position. However, heavy stomach sleepers aren’t the best fit; they require added support along the middle of the bed.

Sex

The Sapira Hybrid is both buoyant and breathable, making it a good mattress for sex if you don’t mind the noise of the coils.

Off-Gassing

There’s a chance that you’ll notice a slight off-gassing odor when you remove your Sapira Hybrid from its packaging. We experienced a smell, but it wasn’t overwhelming. This is temporary and not harmful. Give the mattress up to 72 hours to fully air out before adding sheets, and you should be good to go.

Durability

Leesa is one of few mattress brands to reveal the densities of their foams on their website, and with high densities, they are more durable than the foams found in many mattresses. This means the Sapira Hybrid will likely last around 10 years before needing to be replaced.

Sapira Hybrid Mattress Construction: What’s It Made Of?

The Sapira Hybrid contains five layers of polyfoam, memory foam, and individually encased coils. Measuring 11” thick, this medium-firm mattress combines foam’s pressure-relieving properties with the springy support for which coils are known. Leesa utilizes polyfoam in the top layer for excellent cooling and softness and memory foam in the second layer for contouring pressure relief.

Quilted Mattress Cover: A luxurious quilted cover brings softness and breathability for cool, comfortable sleep.

Polyfoam Comfort Layer: A soft and responsive polyfoam layer cushions pressure points without making you feel stuck. This layer is hole-punched, so airflow can keep the sleeping surface cool.

Memory Foam Transition Layer: High-density memory foam aligns closely to the body for excellent weight distribution.

Coil Base Layer: A supportive core of coils moves independently, cushioning pressure points while supporting lighter areas. These coils bring a slight bounce that makes it easy to switch sleeping positions.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

Leesa ships their mattresses for free to all United States customers, even those living in Hawaii or Alaska. If you want your new mattress hand-delivered to you and set up in your bedroom, select white glove delivery at checkout. For $150, a team sets up the new bed and gets rid of your old mattress so that you can take it easy.

Standard shipping takes around three to 10 business days. Add about a week for white glove delivery. Because Leesa is a bed-in-a-box mattress brand, your new mattress arrives compressed in a box. Depending on how long the bed was compressed, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to fully expand. You might notice a slight off-gassing odor during this time that will quickly fade.

It took us less than two minutes to unbox the Sapira Hybrid, and it expanded instantly out of the packaging.

Warranty

Every Leesa mattress comes with the mattress industry’s standard 10-year limited warranty. During the 10-year warranty, Leesa covers the cost to replace or repair the bed if a covered defect arises. Defects include anything from cracked foam to body impressions greater than 1”.

Trial Period & Returns

After spending lots of time choosing a mattress, the last thing you probably want to do is return it. However, there’s no way to know if a bed is right for you until you’ve spent at least 30 days sleeping on it. That’s why Leesa mattresses come with a 100-night trial. After 30 days, you may return your Sapira Hybrid bed for a full refund during the trial period.

Leesa makes returning a mattress easy. Simply contact Leesa’s customer service team and they can walk you through the process. Leesa has someone come to your door to pick up the bed and bring it to a local charity—no need to stuff it back into its box! Within a week or two, you will receive a full refund on your original form of payment.

Addressing Sapira Hybrid Mattress Complaints

  • Not Soft Enough: The Sapira Hybrid has a balanced feel that provides generous pressure relief, but it’s not ultra-soft and cloud-like like some beds. If you want a soft feel, the Sapira Hybrid may not be the best fit. Instead, check out the best soft mattresses.
  • No Memory Foam Cradle: Despite a second layer of memory foam, the Sapira Hybrid doesn’t have the doughy memory foam mattress feel.
  • A Bit Costly: The Sapira Hybrid is more expensive than the Leesa Original mattress. People on a tight budget might find the Sapira Hybrid out of their price range.

Comparing Different Leesa Mattresses

Sapira Hybrid vs. Leesa Original

Sapira Hybrid Mattress is Best For:Leesa Original Mattress is Best For:
Side SleepersShoppers Looking for a Firmer Mattress
Hot SleepersBack and Stomach Sleepers
Sleepers who Have Back PainSensitive Sleepers who Share the Bed

The Leesa Original is an all-foam mattress that pairs polyfoam and memory foam for a supportive yet pressure-relieving feel. The Original is slightly firmer than the Sapira Hybrid, so it’s best for back and stomach sleepers. The hybrid is better for side sleepers than the Original.

While both beds do a good job limiting motion transfer, the Original’s all-foam construction makes it even better than the hybrid for sensitive sleepers who share the bed.

Sapira Hybrid vs. Studio by Leesa

Sapira Hybrid Mattress is Best For:Studio by Leesa Mattress is Best For:
Side SleepersShoppers Looking for a Firmer Mattress
Hot SleepersLight to Average-weight Sleeper
Sleepers who Have Back PainBack and Stomach Sleepers

The Studio by Leesa is a memory foam mattress with a firmer feel then the Sapira Hybrid. The Studio is the most affordable Leesa mattress and is best for people looking for high-quality at a budget-friendly price point.

Because the Sapira Hybrid has a more durable support system and thicker comfort layers, we recommend it over the Studio for heavier folks and side sleepers. Both accommodate the average back and stomach sleeper.

Sapira Hybrid vs. Leesa Legend

Sapira Hybrid Mattress is Best For:Leesa Legend Mattress is Best For:
Side SleepersShoppers Looking for a Softer Mattress
Hot SleepersSleepers With Joint Pain
Sleepers who Have Back PainSleepers Looking for a Mattress that “Hugs”

The Leesa Legend is a more luxurious version of the Sapira Hybrid. The Legend has a softer feel, which is better for most side sleepers and older adults with body aches and pains. Its two coil layers make the Legend even cooler and more responsive than the hybrid.

The slightly firmer feel of the Sapira Hybrid brings the support that stomach sleepers need, and some sleepers prefer the medium-firm feel of the hybrid over the softer, enveloping surface of the Legend.

Comparing Leesa to the Competition

Sapira Hybrid vs. Casper Hybrid

Sapira Hybrid Mattress is Best For:Casper Hybrid Mattress is Best For:
Side SleepersSleepers with Back Pain
Hot SleepersShoppers Looking for a Medium-Firm Mattress
Sleepers Looking For Minimum Motion TransferAll Sleeping Positions

The Casper and Sapira Hybrid mattresses are each 11” thick and combine breathable polyfoam, springy coils, and contouring memory foam for high-quality beds great at supporting alignment in every sleeping position.

What sets these beds apart is slight variations in construction. The Casper Hybrid utilizes zoning so that the middle of the bed is more supportive and the top and bottom thirds are softer. The result is a better bed for lightweight side sleepers and heavier stomach sleepers than the Leesa. However, the Casper’s thicker coil system means more motion transfer than the Leesa.

Sapira Hybrid vs. Purple Hybrid

Sapira Hybrid Mattress is Best For:Purple Hybrid Mattress is Best For:
Side SleepersShoppers Looking for a Firmer Mattress
Hot SleepersBack and Stomach Sleepers
Sleepers who Have Back PainVery Hot Sleepers

The Purple Hybrid pairs Purple’s proprietary comfort grid with pocketed coils for a feel unlike any other bed. We describe Purple’s feel as one of floating, where there’s contouring without the sink of memory foam. The Purple Hybrid sleeps even cooler than the Sapira Hybrid, and both offer excellent support for back and stomach sleepers.

The Sapira Hybrid better dampens motion thanks to thicker foam layers, and its softer feel provides superior pressure relief for side sleepers.

Sapira Hybrid vs. Layla Hybrid

Sapira Hybrid Mattress is Best For:Layla Hybrid Original Mattress is Best For:
Side SleepersShoppers Looking for a Flippable Mattress
Hot SleepersLightweight Side Sleepers
Sleepers who Have Back PainShopper Looking for a Lifetime Warranty

The Layla Hybrid is one of the very few flippable mattresses designed for adults. With a soft side and a medium-firm side, it appeals to a broader range of comfort preferences than the medium-firm Sapira Hybrid. The softer side of the Layla tends to be preferred over the Leesa by lightweight people and side sleepers.

While the Layla Hybrid’s versatility is a huge plus, the lack of an ultra-durable base means it isn’t as supportive as the Sapira Hybrid for people weighing more than 230 lbs.

Sapira Hybrid Mattress FAQs

Is the Sapira Hybrid worth it?

The Sapira Hybrid mattress does have higher pricing than your average hybrid bed. However, its high-quality construction and many perks, including excellent spinal alignment, superb pressure relief, and a cool feel may help you sleep well for many years. It’s also more durable than your average mattress.

What is the best hybrid mattress?

There is no singular hybrid bed that’s perfect for everyone. To find your best fit, you should consider your body size, sleeping habits, sleeping position, and comfort preference. The Leesa Hybrid specifically is a top pick for couples, back and stomach sleepers, hot sleepers, and people with back pain.

Why does my Leesa mattress smell?

Every mattress with foam layers has a slight odor when new, especially those that are shipped compressed in a box. Tiny particles escape the foam when it expands, creating a temporary scent called off-gassing. But don’t worry, the Leesau’s smell typically fades within a few days.

Leesa Premium Foam Pillow

The Leesa Pillow is made with a solid piece of memory foam that’s ideal for anyone who likes their pillow to closely conform to their head and neck. At 5″ thick, it’s best suited to back and side sleepers, but is probably too lofty for most stomach sleepers. The foam is ventilated with tiny channels that improve breathability, so the pillow stays temperature neutral, which is a big bonus for hot sleepers.
