Our team of Certified Sleep Science Coaches have reviewed hundreds of mattresses and sleep products for over eight years using hands-on testing. We assess each sleep product for comfort, support, cooling, firmness, pressure relief, and more. Learn more.
Based on our performance testing, I’m putting the Saatva HD and WinkBed Plus mattresses head to head to compare their differences in firmness, feel, construction, and more. Let’s see which bed comes out on top.
The Saatva HD and WinkBed Plus are two examples of beds that are specifically designed for heavyweight sleepers. Wondering how they compare? We used our testing methodology to break down how these mattresses stack up.
The Saatva and WinkBed are both good for heavyweight sleepers. But the Saatva pulls ahead if you have back pain, while the WinkBed can’t be beat for stomach sleepers.
Saatva is best for… | WinkBed is best for… |
Combination sleepers | Stomach sleepers |
Hot sleepers | Folks on a budget |
Sleepers with back pain | Those who prefer a firm bed |
Now what you came here for: I’ll tell you how each mattress feels to sleep on.
On our 1 to 10 firmness scale, we rated the Saatva HD at a 6/10, which is medium firm and the universal firmness level. The WinkBed Plus received an 8/10, which we consider to be firm. If you sleep with a lighter-weight partner, keep in mind that they may feel each bed as firmer than normal because they don’t sink as deep into the layers.
When you lie down on Saatva, it offers an initial soft feel followed by a deep cushion. There is still an overall sensation of support thanks to the dense foams and coils inside. The WinkBed gives you more of that bouncy, cushioning sensation. You stay elevated enough to be supported by the firm layers, but the pillowtop cradles you.
If you’re a combination sleeper—meaning you change positions throughout the night—both mattresses will support combo sleepers, but it may be easier to move on the Saatva HD because it contains naturally responsive latex foam. The WinkBed HD is an especially good mattress for stomach sleepers. It’s both comfortable and supportive thanks to the polyfoam, gel, and coils layered in the mattress.
Both beds will work well for heavyweight back and side sleepers because they’re pillowtop layers cushion and hug the lower back while the support layers keep the spine in line.
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 5 |
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 5 | 3 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 5 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
The Saatva HD is a good fit for heavyweight back and side sleepers because of the dual cushioning and support. This bed also promotes correct spinal alignment and provides pressure relief, especially for side sleepers. The WinkBed Plus is a good fit for heavyweight sleepers in all three sleeping positions because it lifts all along your body.
If you are an average-weight sleeper, the Saatva HD accommodates every sleeping position, but it should feel especially good for back sleepers. The WinkBed Plus may be too firm for average-weight side sleepers. But back or stomach sleepers who prefer a mattress that feels more firm could benefit from the WinkBed.
The Saatva HD will likely feel too firm for lightweight side sleepers. If you sleep on your side, you might feel pain at pressure points; check out our pressure maps to see what we mean. The HD should be a better fit for lightweight stomach and back sleepers because they should maintain proper spinal alignment.
The WinkBed Plus may feel too firm for lightweight back and side sleepers because you won’t be able to feel the “cradling” aspect you need. Lightweight stomach sleepers may be better suited for this bed.
Both WinkBed and Saatva have very similar mattress constructions, but the Saatva HD is thicker at 15.5” tall; the WinkBed Plus is a little shorter at 13.5”.

On the Saatva HD, you’ll find a hand-tufted organic cotton cover and a 3” foam pillow top. The WinkBed Plus cover is made of a moisture-wicking material called TENCEL.
The Saatva HD’s comfort layer includes memory foam for extra pressure relief. The WinkBed Plus includes gel-infused polyfoam in the cover to add comfort and prevent body impressions over time.
The Saatva HD uses a layer of extremely durable 12.5-gauge recycled steel coils to provide support. The WinkBed Plus has a support layer made of 7” tall pocketed coils, which are individually wrapped to help with motion isolation.

In this category, we gave both the Saatva HD and the WinkBed Plus a 5/5. Both mattresses feature materials like naturally cool latex foam, breathable cotton, gel-infused foam, and coils that provide tons of airflow. For similar options for hot sleepers, check out the best cooling mattresses.
The best mattresses for couples typically feature great motion isolation. Motion isolation is a bed’s ability to stifle movement at the source (e.g.: your partner tossing and turning) and keep it from transferring across the mattress and waking you up. Those thick layers of foam paid off for Saatva: It easily beat the WinkBed when it came to isolating motion.
Motion isolation and edge support are two key factors in determining whether or not a mattress will work for folks who sleep in pairs. Both beds have great edge support, even for heavyweight sleepers; you should be able to sit or lie near the edge of the mattress without a problem. But of course, Saatva’s edge support is always unmatched.
People with hip, shoulder, or low back pain most likely want a mattress that keeps pressure from building up in these areas. In this category, both the Saatva HD and the WinkBed Plus get a 4/5. Both mattresses relieve pressure really well for average to heavyweight sleepers, but lightweight side sleepers do see pressure buildup in the hips and shoulders.
The Saatva HD is highly recommended for people with back pain. It promotes good spinal alignment, which could help ease pain. The WinkBed Plus also provides lumbar support to help prevent back pain. For similar options, check out the best mattresses for back pain.
In this category, the Saatva HD gets a 5 and the WinkBed Plus gets a 5. Since both beds are specially designed for heavier individuals, they use materials that are especially strong and durable and will last for many years. You should replace your mattress every 10 years, and both mattresses should last at least that long.
The Saatva HD has free white glove delivery, which means a team of professionals will come to your home, set your new mattress up, and remove your old mattress for free. The shipping time is about nine to 21 days. The bed also includes a Lifetime warranty and a 365-night sleep trial.
The WinkBed Plus comes with free shipping in the contiguous U.S., with a shipping time within seven to 10 business days. The WinkBed Plus is also covered by a limited Lifetime warranty and comes with a shorter 120-night sleep trial.
Both the Saatva HD and WinkBed Plus are good options for heavyweight sleepers, with remarkably similar features. But if you’re a stomach sleeper or on a budget, we recommend the WinkBed; if you are a senior or sleep with a partner, the Saatva is the winner.
The Saatva HD, in a Queen size, weighs 135 pounds. If you’re wondering how much weight the HD can hold, the Saatva website states the mattress can hold people weighing up to 500 pounds—meaning a Queen size holds up to 1000 pounds of weight. So, if both you and your partner are heavyweight sleepers, the HD should be able to support you.
The WinkBed Plus is a hybrid mattress that’s made by the WinkBed brand that’s designed specifically for heavier people. The mattress is extra thick and durable. Unlike the regular WinkBed, it contains latex foam, which is more cooling and durable than memory foam. This mattress also includes cooling features that should help if you sleep hot.
All mattresses sag over time, but the Saatva HD should last at least 10 years before it begins to break down and sag. This mattress is made for heavyweight sleepers, so it’s extra durable. The strong materials used in the mattress give the HD an excellent durability score. The latex foam inside is more resistant to body impressions and indentations than memory foam and the coils are thicker and more supportive.
