Purple RejuvenatePlus Mattress Firmness and Feel

Purple RejuvenatePlus Mattress Firmness

Here at Mattress Nerd, we use a 1–10 firmness scale, with 1 being softer than sleeping on a cloud. The Purple RejuvenatePlus is medium-firm at a 6.5/10 on this scale—best for back and stomach sleepers due to the alignment and elevation it offers those positions. However, lightweight sleepers (weighing under 130 lbs) may find the feel a bit firmer as they don’t sink much into the layers; the opposite is true for heavyweight folks (weighing over 230 lbs).

What Does the Purple RejuvenatePlus Feel Like?

The RejuvenatePlus has that traditional, luxury hybrid bed feel: it’s elevating, yet offers a slight cushion with amazing support. The pillowtop over the Purple grid gives the RejuvenatePlus a different feel than other Purple mattresses. Instead of the weightless, floating feel, you’ll get more of a foam, hugging sensation.

What Sleeping Position Is Purple RejuvenatePlus Mattress Best For?

Body Type:Back SleepersStomach SleepersSide Sleepers
Lightweight< 130 lbs:454
Average-weight130–230 lbs:555
Heavyweight> 230 lbs:555

1 = Very poor     2 = Not good     3 = Fair     4 = Good     5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

The most important factor back sleepers should look for in a mattress is spinal alignment. The best mattresses for back sleepers keep the spine in its natural S-Curve—basically your standing posture. The Purple RejuvenatePlus does a great job at keeping all back sleepers aligned, especially average-weight and heavyweight sleepers; however, lightweight back sleepers may want more cushion.

Side Sleepers

The best mattresses for side sleepers keeps your spine in a straight line and takes pressure off of the hips and shoulders. Beds this firm don’t usually bode well for lightweight side sleepers, but we were pretty impressed with the pressure and weight distribution. We saw a bit of yellow in the shoulders, but not enough to raise concern.

purple rejuvenate plus lightweight side

We also saw great pressure map results for average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers should be searching for a bed on the firmer side that can keep the hips aligned with the rest of the spine; softer mattresses allow for too much hip sinkage. We think that the Purple RejuvenatePlus is one of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers because of the support and elevation it provides to lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight sleepers.

Combination Sleepers

The best mattresses for combination sleepers are bouncy, responsive, and support every sleeping position you may find yourself in. Purple has lots of responsive layers and works for all sleeping positions, so it’s a solid choice for combination sleepers of all weights.

Purple RejuvenatePlus Mattress Performance

Is the Purple RejuvenatePlus Mattress Cooling?

If you sleep hot, a mattress’s construction will tell you a lot about how much airflow is facilitated through the bed. More breathable layers create a better experience for people who sleep hot. When we cut into the mattress, we noticed the breathable cover, Purple grid, and pocketed coils—a hot sleeper’s dream. Check out our list of the best cooling mattresses for more options like Purple.

Edge Support

A mattress with good perimeter support is ideal for seniors who need a supportive place to get in and out of bed, couples who want to utilize the entire mattress surface, and folks who like to sleep along the edge. The RejuvenatePlus has two different layers that offer edge support, and it pays off. This bed has very solid edge support for sitting, lying, or angsty phone-call having. We gave it a 5/5 in our edge support test.

Responsiveness

A responsive mattress is a mattress that is easy to move around on—both for changing sleeping positions and sex. The bouncy coils and responsive Purple grid offer great responsiveness for combination sleepers and sex.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

If you sleep with a partner, your pet, or your child, a bed’s motion isolation will be important to you. Motion isolation is a bed’s ability to keep motion from transferring across the mattress, potentially motion that could wake your sleep partner.

purple rejuvenate plus motion isolation

To test motion transfer I put a beaker of liquid where one person would sleep and dropped a weighted ball where their partner would be. The movement in the beaker gives me a visual on how much motion is transferred when I drop the ball. Hybrid beds don’t tend to offer great motion isolation, so I was surprised at how little motion transferred. I’d call this one of the best mattresses for couples.

Noise

During testing, we noticed a little bit of an airy noise coming from the Purple grid, but it’s nothing that should wake you or your partner throughout the night.

Pain Relief

Those who suffer from back pain require a mattress that provides good alignment. We noted that the RejuvenatePlus gave side sleepers the straight spine they need, back sleepers the natural curve they need, and stomach sleepers the elevation they need. This is a good mattress for back pain all around.

Folks with hip and shoulder pain need a bed that is amazing at pressure relief, especially if you sleep on your side. Lightweight sleepers had good pressure relief, but we saw great pressure relief for average to heavyweight sleepers.

Sex

The best mattresses for sex are cooling, quiet, durable, and responsive. Because the RejuvenatePlus excelled in all of these performance factors, we gave it the green light for couples.

Off-Gassing

Boxed mattresses tend to off-gas after unboxing because of the way the compressed foam reacts to the plastic it’s wrapped in. There was a slight off-gassing smell after we unboxed the Purple, but it went away fairly quickly.

Durability

The Purple RejuvenatePlus has all the markers of a durable mattress: it’s tall, provides great edge support, uses supportive coils in the base, and offers multiple layers. I’d estimate this bed should last you the full 10 years.

Purple RejuvenatePlus Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?

During our mattress testing, we cut the mattress open to look at each layer and see how they inform performance. Check out our breakdown of each layer to see if the mattress works for your needs.

purple rejuvenate plus construction

Cooling Quilted Comfort Cover: The surface of the mattress is made of a tufted cooling cover, which provides a bit of cushion.

Active Response Comfort Foam: This foam layer makes up the pillowtop, helping relieve pressure and add softness.

GelFlex Grid Plus: The famous Purple grid makes an appearance in this mattress, providing airflow between the foam layers and proper spinal alignment. This layer is surrounded with edge support foam.

Dual Comfort Foam Layers: Next, there are a couple of pressure-relieving and cushioning layers which add to overall comfort.

3 Zone Responsive Coils: Finally, the support layer is made of individually wrapped coils that contribute to overall durability, airflow, edge support, and spinal alignment.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

The Purple RejuvenatePlus ships free to the lower 48 U.S. states, but if you live in Alaska or Hawaii, there will be a delivery fee. The mattress will arrive at your home compressed in a box or you can pay an additional $200 fee for in-home mattress setup.

If you prefer to unbox, I suggest you use a partner, friend, or family member to help you—that bad boy is heavy. To unbox your mattress, cut open the box, place the mattress on your foundation or base, and unroll the mattress until it’s free from the plastic.

Warranty

Purple offers the industry-standard 10-year limited warranty, which covers any defects from workmanship, but it doesn’t cover abuse, neglect, or any firmness level changes. Be aware of the recommendation foundations stated in the warranty; using the wrong base can void your warranty.

Trial Period & Returns

A sleep trial period is the window you have for free returns. During the trial period, you unbox the mattress and sleep on it like normal, but if you don’t like it, you can return it for a full refund or exchange it for a different Purple mattress. Purple offers the industry-standard 100-night sleep trial period.

If you wish to return or exchange your Purple RejuvenatePlus, you have to wait at least 21 days (the break-in period). Contact their customer care team at 1-888-848-2305, and they will walk you through the process.

The Purple Original consists of the Purple grid over two supportive foam layers, which suits lighter body types better than the thick, robust RejuvenatePlus. Both utilize the Purple grid, but the pillowtop on the RejuvenatePlus offers better pressure relief to those with hip and shoulder pain.

The Purple RestorePlus is another Purple hybrid mattress with a softer feel, which is a better fit for side sleepers. It also has that Purple grid right on top, which facilitates even more airflow than the Rejuvenate. On the other hand, the RejuvenatePlus offers a better balance of responsiveness and motion isolation for couples and solid edge support for seniors.

The Saatva Classic has our standard for edge support—we’ve never had a mattress top it, making it a great choice for seniors (especially with the free white glove delivery they offer). However, it doesn’t isolate motion or relieve pressure as well as the Purple.

Purple Mattress FAQs

What happens to returned Purple mattresses?

When you return a Purple mattress, the brand leaves it up to you to decide what happens. You have to provide proof that you either donated the mattress, recycled it, or had it picked up by a mattress disposal service. Once you provide proof, you will receive a full refund.

How long does a Purple mattress have to sit?

You should leave your Purple mattress to sit for a few hours before you put sheets on it and hit the hay. Leaving your bed alone after unboxing allows it to expand to its full size and to off-gas. This process shouldn’t take longer than 24 hours, if that.

What are the perks of a Purple mattress?

Purple mattresses are known for their durability and spinal alignment. The Purple grid doesn’t easily break down or sag. It’s made to perfectly distribute your weight to keep pressure off of your back and keep your spine in an optimal position, which helps to prevent back pain.

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

So, bottom line: Is the Purple RejuvenatePlus worth that price tag? Well, I think it would be incredibly bold to charge that much and deliver a crappy mattress, and luckily, they didn’t. This bed is basically an all around performer. But, you can find similar hybrid beds for cheaper. So, it’s up to you if you want to pay for the Purple flavor.
