There are a lot of different types of beds on the market, and it can be challenging to find one that will give you the comfort and support you need. With this Puffy vs. Nectar comparison, we’ll help you make an informed decision about which mattress is best for your needs. Read our in-depth guide to mattress reviews through our testing methodology.
In this section, we are going to review and compare which mattress suits each sleepers’ various preferences and needs.
Puffy is best for… | Nectar is best for… |
Side sleepers | Couples |
Hot sleepers | Indecisive shoppers |
Sleepers with back or joint pain | Side and back sleepers |
This section will differentiate how each mattress varies in terms of firmness, feel, and function.
The Puffy and Nectar earn a 6/10 on the one to 10 firmness scale. A 6/10 means that the Puffy and Nectar are medium-firm mattresses—the firmness level preferred by most folks. As a result, both beds work well for all sleeping positions. If you’re a lightweight (under 150 pounds) sleeper, we recommend the Puffy as it will be softer than the Nectar but still provide support for heavier people who share your bed. If you’re an average-weight (150–230 pounds) sleeper or heavyweight (over 230 pounds), we recommend either mattress depending on personal preference: The Puffy is slightly softer and more accommodating, while the Nectar offers better pressure relief but may be too soft for some heavier people who share their bed.
Despite similar levels of firmness, these beds do feel different. The Puffy has a slightly softer top memory foam layer that feels like soft dough shaping your body. The Nectar’s higher density memory foam molds more slowly to the body, with a feel closer to traditional memory foam. We like the slow-response contouring of the Nectar for those with average-weight body types (130–230 lbs) and the Puffy for those with lightweight body types (under 130 lbs). If you have a heavyweight body type (over 230 lbs), you might experience the memory foam “quicksand” effect—meaning you sink in so far that it’s hard to get out of bed or switch sleeping positions.
The Puffy and Nectar mattresses are great for sleepers of all shapes and sizes. The contouring, responsive support is perfect for back and stomach sleepers and side sleepers who need additional support in the shoulders and hips. The memory foam layer acts like a cushion between you and the base layer so that your hips are cradled while you sleep. The pressure-relieving properties will also help to relieve pressure points in your shoulders, hips, and lower back.
Puffy Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 4 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 2 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 2 | 2 | 3 |
Nectar Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 2 | 2 | 3 |
The Puffy should provide a decent balance of pressure relief and spinal support for average-weight back sleepers, but most average-weight side sleepers will likely find it to be excessively hard. Good news for average-weight stomach sleepers, who should experience appropriate spinal support in this position thanks to the firmer feeling.
For average-weight back sleepers, the Nectar strikes the same comfort-support balance as the Puffy (though note that the Puffy is a bit more supportive). For side sleepers, the Nectar is a preferable alternative because of its memory foam comfort layer’s increased pressure alleviation. The Nectar mattress, however, is excessively soft for average-weight stomach sleepers.
Heavy back sleepers who weigh around 230 pounds should have little trouble finding appropriate support on the Puffy. People who weigh substantially more will require a more supportive mattress. On this mattress, heavyweight side sleepers may feel too much pressure in the shoulder and hip area. Heavyweight stomach sleepers may find the Puffy supportive enough; yet again, much heavier folks will need a more supportive mattress.
For the majority of heavyweight sleepers, Nectar may not be able to provide enough support. Heavyweight side sleepers closer to 230 pounds may have enough pressure reduction. However, those weighing more than that may exert pressure through the comfort layers into the firmer support layer underneath.
For lightweight back sleepers, the Puffy should provide a balance of pressure alleviation and spinal support; however, most lightweight side sleepers may find the mattress too firm in this position. Lightweight stomach sleepers may benefit from the Puffy mattress’ firmness because they will have plenty of spinal support.
Since it combines pressure relief and support, the Nectar, like the Puffy, may be a good fit for lightweight back sleepers. The Nectar’s memory foam comfort layers should provide enough pressure relief for side sleepers, who should find this mattress a fantastic choice. Lightweight stomach sleepers may find the Nectar overly soft, causing their hips to sink into the mattress and throwing their spine out of alignment.
Puffy and Nectar are both memory foam mattresses, but they have a few key differences in their construction. This section will tackle these differences to help you identify which mattress will suit your needs.
Puffy Mattress Materials | Nectar Mattress Materials |
Stain-Resistant Mattress Cover | Quilted Cooling TENCEL Cover |
Cooling Cloud Foam (2”) | Gel Memory Foam (2”) |
Climate Comfort Foam (2”) | Adaptive Hi-Core memory foam 4”) |
Firm Support Foam (6”) | Firm Core Support Foam (6”) |
10″ | 12″ |
The polyester cover of the Puffy mattress is thin, elastic and stain-resistant. It is simple to remove and wash the zip-n-wash cover. On the other hand, Nectar uses a Tencel fabric cover, which promotes cooling.
The Puffy’s Cooling Cloud layer is a gel-infused memory foam with a slow-moving sensation. A bouncy and more responsive Climate Comfort transition layer lies beneath it, which helps prevent sleepers from feeling stuck in the mattress. Meanwhile, the primary comfort layer of the Nectar is constructed of a slow-moving, pressure-relieving gel memory foam with cooling gel incorporated into it.
The Firm Core Support foundation layer of the Puffy is constructed of firm-set foam. This material is unique to mattresses and is very strong and supportive. High-density base foam, which is supportive and gives Nectar’s cover its overall structure, makes up the support layer of the mattress.

In this section, we’re going to tackle the differences between the Puffy and Nectar mattresses’ performance in terms of temperature, motion transfer, edge support, etc.
All-foam beds like the Nectar and Puffy don’t boast the breathability of beds with innerspring coils. Both mattresses incorporate gel through the top foam layer to combat the lack of airflow. Cooling gel moves heat away from where you sleep, minimizing heat retention and improving temperature regulation. If you want to choose the coolest of these two beds, our testers found the Puffy to be a touch cooler than the Nectar.
Memory foam mattresses like the Puffy and Nectar dampen motion, so you won’t be woken up too often if you sleep with someone who can’t help moving around a lot. Both beds do an exceptional job minimizing motion transfer, but the Nectar is the tiniest bit better, thanks to more generous comfort foam layers.
Regarding edge support, they are similar in that they offer great support for people who sleep on the edge of their bed. The Nectar has a firmer feel than the Puffy, which makes it better suited for heavier sleepers who need more support. The Puffy is also better suitable for side sleepers because it offers a little more give at the edges.
Nectar uses memory foam to create a mattress that contours to your body, providing pressure relief by supporting it evenly and relieving pressure points. Puffy’s approach uses gel-infused foam to create a mattress that provides pressure relief by evenly dispersing weight across the bed’s surface and reducing the pressure on any one point.
The Puffy and Nectar are both excellent picks for healthy posture when sleeping, so long as you weigh less than 230 lbs. Neither mattress offers enough support for most stomach sleepers, including those under 230 lbs.
The Nectar is an impressively durable memory foam mattress. The Nectar will likely outlast the Puffy with a firmer-than-average top layer and a thick, supportive slab of base foam. Both beds will likely last for seven years or more before sleepers notice signs of use. They’re also both covered by lifetime warranties.
Puffy mattresses come with free shipping throughout the entire United States. Puffy offers a 101-night sleep trial, wherein you can return your new mattress for a full refund after you’ve had it for at least 14 days. It also has a lifetime warranty covering material defects or issues due to manufacturing errors.
The Nectar mattress comes with free shipping within the continental United States. However, there is a non-refundable shipping fee to addresses in Hawaii or Alaska. It provides buyers with a year-long or 365-day sleep trial period and a forever warranty.

The Puffy’s softer top layer creates superior pressure relief for most lightweight folks, especially those who sleep on their sides. The Nectar does a better job of balancing support with pressure relief, so we favor it for average-weight back and side sleepers. Also, Nectar offers lower pricing, greater durability, and a longer trial period.
Both memory foam mattresses are excellent for couples thanks to their ability to isolate motion transfer and support deep, restorative sleep.
Nectar and Puffy mattresses are both high-quality beds that provide a comfortable sleep. However, they differ in their construction and materials. Nectar uses a unique foam core with three layers of cooling foam, while Puffy has two layers of memory foam on top of its comfort layer.
Nectar offers excellent support in all areas of your body, while Puffy provides a soft sleep experience for couples throughout the night. This means you can use either one of the mattresses depending on how you want to feel when sleeping on your mattress.
That depends on your preferences and what kind of bedding setup you have in mind. If you want something super soft but supportive enough for side sleeping, go with Nectar; if you want something firm but comfortable, then Puffy is an excellent pick.
