While the Nolah Original and TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid mattresses have many similarities but come at drastically different price points. Which one is right for you? We used our testing methodology to break down how these products compare.
The Nolah Original is a medium-firm, all-foam mattress that’s a great fit for side sleepers in search of pressure relief. The TEMPUR-Cloud is a breathable hybrid mattress that also offers good pressure relief.
Nolah is best for… | TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid is best for… |
Sleepers with pressure points and aches | Sleepers with back pain |
Back sleepers | Back sleepers |
Sleepers with a larger budget | Hot sleepers |
The Nolah Original is medium-firm. Tempur-Pedic mattresses come in multiple different firmness options, with the TEMPUR-Cloud also considered medium-firm.
The Nolah Original is considered a medium-firm mattress (6/10). It’s ideal for side sleepers who want pressure relief for their hips and shoulders. However, if you are a stomach sleeper (particularly a heavyweight sleeper), you will probably want something firmer to support your hips.
Tempur-Pedic carries mattresses that fall into several different categories. At 6/10, the TEMPUR-Cloud is most comparable to the Nolah. If you’d like a softer mattress, choose the LuxeBreeze, LuxeAdapt, or ProAdapt. Heavyweight sleepers may need something extra firm such as the ProAdapt, LuxeAdapt, or LuxeBreeze in Firm.
The Nolah mattress is an all-foam mattress. It has great pressure relief and does a good job of balancing cushion and support.
The Tempur-Pedic mattress is also made of memory foam (if you’re looking for a hybrid bed, choose the TEMPUR-Cloud). It offers the traditional sinking-sand feeling of memory foam beds, and also has good pressure relief and spinal support.
The Nolah mattress is best suited for side sleepers. It does a good job of offering dual support and cushioning for your shoulders and hips. If you’re a back or stomach sleeper, however, you will likely feel as if you’re sinking too far into this all-foam mattress. Lightweight and average-weight combination sleepers will enjoy the Nolah’s responsiveness.
Side sleepers will be comfortable and supported on the TEMPUR-ProAdapt, TEMPUR-LuxeAdapt, and TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze in the Soft options. For back or stomach sleepers — who require extra firmness to stay aligned — we recommend any Tempur-Pedic mattresses in Medium-Firm or Firm.

Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 4 |
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Average-weight side sleepers will be most comfortable on the Nolah Original, but back sleepers will be sufficiently comfortable, too. The Nolah’s responsiveness makes it a good choice for average-weight combination sleepers. But if you’re a stomach sleeper, you’ll probably want something a little firmer.
The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid’s combination of firmness and cushioning makes it a good fit for all back sleepers. For an average-weight side sleeper or stomach sleeper, this bed will also be a good fit. However, the TEMPUR-Cloud is not ideal for combination sleepers due to its thick layers of foam.
Heavyweight back, stomach, and side sleepers will most likely find that the Nolah Original is too soft and doesn’t provide quite enough support. The Nolah may not be the best choice for heavyweight combination sleepers, either — it will probably be difficult to move around.
The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid’s combination of firmness and cushioning makes it a good fit for all back sleepers. However, heavyweight side sleepers will probably need more support — and heavyweight stomach sleepers may sink too far into the mattress. What’s more, the TEMPUR-Cloud is not ideal for combination sleepers due to its thick layers of foam.
Lightweight side, stomach, and back sleepers should be very comfortable on the Nolah. The Nolah’s responsiveness makes it a great fit for lightweight combination sleepers, too.
The TEMPUR-Cloud Hybrid’s combination of firmness and cushioning makes it a good fit for all back sleepers. For a lightweight side sleeper or stomach sleeper, this bed will also be a good fit. But the TEMPUR-Cloud is not ideal for combination sleepers due to its thick layers of foam.
Tempur-Pedic mattresses range from 11” to 13” in thickness. The Nolah mattress is 10”. The mattresses are made from similar foam materials.

While the Nolah offers decent pain relief, keep in mind that chiropractors recommend an extra-firm mattress to help reduce pain, and the Nolah is only medium-firm. The TEMPUR-Cloud is a good fit for back sleepers looking for pain relief because of its firmness level and foam construction.
