Since the original Nectar and the Nectar Premier Copper are both all-foam beds, you can expect great pressure relief either way. Let’s talk more about how each mattress feels and how firm it is. While feel can depend on a lot of different factors and preferences, we like to keep firmness on a simple scale of 1–10 at Mattress Nerd. On this scale, a 1 is softer than actual nectar and a 10 is like sleeping on concrete.
With the Nerd scale in mind, the original Nectar comes in at a medium-firm 6/10, and the Nectar Premier Copper comes in at a soft, true medium 5/10. This softer medium firmness works great for many average sleepers, although heavyweight sleepers, especially stomach sleepers, may want a bed with more firmness.
For the original Nectar, its medium-firm 6/10 feel will also appeal to many average-weight sleepers, but some lightweight side sleepers may have trouble sinking down into their mattress at this firmness.
Since both of these beds are all-foam, they have a similar feel; however, that isn’t to say they’re the same. First off, the Nectar Premier Copper is the more plush version of these two beds, so it has a deeper, thicker, and more doughy feel than the original Nectar.
On the other hand, the standard Nectar feels a little firmer, and it has more responsiveness and support than the Premier Copper. If you prioritize ease of movement over sinking down into your bed, the OG Nectar should be more your speed.
Between these two Nectar beds, the Premier Copper is the softer option, with a doughy and sinking feel. For lightweight and average-weight back sleepers, this bed’s denser memory foam feel is ideal. On the other hand, the original Nectar is a little more firmer and lifted, making it a great option for average-weight side sleepers who need a bed that’s soft enough to sink into, but with enough support as well.
Nectar Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 2 | 2 | 3 |
Nectar Premier Copper Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 2 |
Both the Premier Copper and original Nectar work best for average-weight sleepers, but, between these two beds, back sleepers will prefer the Premier Copper’s cushioning feel, while side sleepers will opt for the original Nectar’s more balanced feel. For stomach sleepers, neither bed is exactly ideal, but the Premier Copper will feel more supportive, although it’s actually softer than the standard Nectar.
For heavyweight sleepers, it’s important to have a bed that’s comfortable, but supportive and firm in the right areas. When comparing these two Nectar beds, neither mattress is ideal for heavier stomach sleepers, but the Premier Copper does offer more support for heavyweight back sleepers. However, for side sleepers, they’ll prefer the more firm original Nectar since the Premier Copper has too much sinking.
Lastly, lightweight sleepers usually do best on beds that are on the softer end. In this case, lightweight back sleepers will prefer the Nectar Premier Copper, which is a little bit softer and allows for more sinking. However, for lightweight side sleepers and stomach sleepers, both the original Nectar and Premier Copper perform similarly as they both have similar issues with being a little too firm or dense.
The Nectar and Premier Copper mattresses are both foam beds with a lot in common. However, the Premier is softer and denser, measuring in at 14 inches tall (or two inches taller than the original Nectar). Also, while both mattresses have cooling gel in their comfort layers, the Premier Copper takes the lead with its cooling, copper-infused mattress cover.
Nectar Mattress Materials | Nectar Premier Copper Mattress Materials |
Quilted memory foam cover | Copper-infused cover |
Comfort layer—3” | Comfort layer—4” |
Dynamic support layer—2” | Dynamic support layer—1” |
Foam base layer—7” | Foam base layer—9” |
Between the Nectar and the Necat Premier Copper, these mattresses have the most differences in their cover. First off, the standard Nectar quilted cover is made of memory foam, and it’s somewhat breathable, but not actively cooling. On the other hand, the Premier Copper’s top layer has temperature-controlling copper infused into it.
Getting down beneath the cover, the original Nectar’s comfort layer includes three inches of memory foam that’s infused with cooling gel. For the Premier Copper, this layer is an extra inch thicker and includes more copper, cooling gel too, and cooling Phase Change Materials which absorb excess heat.
Next up, both of these mattresses have a dynamic support layer which responds to body movement and makes it easier to move across your bed. For this case, the original Nectar actually has a thicker layer here, which helps give this bed the edge in responsiveness.
However, at the very bottom of both beds, the Premier Copper takes the lead again with an extra two inches of height in its high-density foam base layer. This extra height adds more durability to the Premier Copper and support for the sleeper above it.

Now that we’ve covered the firmness, feel, and price of these beds, let’s take a closer look at how they perform:
The Nectar Premier Copper is the clear winner for temperature control. Because this bed has several layers of cooling copper infusion and cooling gel, it sleeps much cooler than the regular Nectar.
This point goes to the original Nectar: since the Premier Copper has a thicker layer of dynamic support, it actually has more motion transfer. So, if you’re sharing your next Nectar mattress with a partner, the Premier Copper is definitely worth taking a look at.
Although the Nectar Premier Copper is the thicker bed, the standard Nectar edges it out for edge support. This is because the Premier Copper is a noticeably softer bed, meaning it has more sink on its perimeter.

Depending on your sleeping position, either Nectar bed could give you better pressure relief and comfort, but, overall, neither bed is squarely better at relieving pressure. If you’re a back sleeper, the Premier will probably be better for you. But, if you’re a side sleeper, it’s worth checking out the regular Nectar.
For lightweight sleepers, the Premier Copper’s softer mattress cover will work best for relieving pain and reducing any pressure build-ups. That said, for average-weight sleepers wanting relief from hip or shoulder pain, the standard Nectar has a great balance of support and softness.
Taller, thicker mattresses are usually more durable, but, in this case, the regular Nectar comes out on top for durability. The reason why is edge support: the Nectar Premier Copper has weaker edge support than the original mattress, making it slightly less durable.
Whether you go with the original Nectar or the luxury Premier Copper, you’ll get the same policies either way. Specifically, both mattresses come with free shipping in the United States (excluding Alaska and Hawaii), and both mattresses also offer a one-year sleep trial during which you can get a full refund.

After the first decade, any other replacements or repairs will include a temporary $50 shipping charge.

The original Nectar and Premier Copper are both all foam mattresses, but hot sleepers will prefer the more luxurious Premier Copper, and sleepers wanting maximum edge support will prefer the Nectar. Lastly, the Premier Copper is ideal for back sleepers, while the standard Nectar has better support for side sleepers.
No. Some shoppers are concerned that the mattress’s off-gassing is toxic, but this part of the unboxing process is safe and temporary. To avoid this odor, however, it’s recommended that you leave your new mattress in a well-ventilated room for a few days to allow the off-gassing to fully dissipate.
The average bed lasts about seven to 10 years before it begins to sag. That said, the Nectar and the Nectar Premier Copper are durable and also come with Nectar’s Lifetime “Forever” warranty that covers any defects to your mattress for as long as you own it.
This depends on a variety of factors including budget, sleeping preferences, and body type. Between the Nectar Premier and the original Nectar, shoppers on a budget will prefer the original, while luxury shoppers will want the Premier. Also, back sleepers will prefer the Premier and side sleepers the original.
