We’ve covered what kinds of sleepers each bed is best for you, but let’s get more into the actual feel and firmness of these two Nectar mattresses.
At Mattress Nerd, we like to test mattress firmness on a simple scale of 1–10, where a 1 is like sleeping on a cloud, and a 10 is harder than falling off that cloud and onto concrete.
With that said, the original Nectar mattress clocks in at a medium-firm 6/10, which is slightly on the firmer side for a foam mattress, but pretty average overall. Next, the Premier’s firmness measures in at a slightly softer 5.5/10. All things considered, these two firmness levels work for the average sleeper, although some heavyweight sleepers may want to up the firmness.
A couple key differences in feel between the Nectar and Nectar Premier is that the original is more supportive and responsive, while the Premier feels more contouring and sinking. Essentially, the Nectar Premier is more doughy and the original is more bouncy.
And, for temperature, the original Nectar feels cool to the touch along with the Premier, but the Premier’s mattress cover is more breathable, and it stays cooler for longer.
Firstly, due to firmness, the Nectar performs better for average-weight sleepers, while the Premier’s softer feel works better for lightweight sleepers. For sleeping position, stomach sleepers will get a similar experience on either bed, but side sleepers will prefer the Premier’s more cushioned feel. And, for back sleepers, the original Nectar is better for sleepers wanting more support, while the Premier feels more pressure-relieving for lightweight sleepers.
Nectar Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 2 | 2 | 3 |
Nectar Premier Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 5 |
The original Nectar’s medium firmness works best for average-weight sleepers, so side sleepers will find a great balance of support and cushion. On the other hand, the Premier’s softer design lacks a little bit in support for side sleepers.
For average-weight back sleepers and stomach sleepers, both the Premier and the original Nectar perform similarly, with back sleepers getting a solid amount of support, but stomach sleepers not getting enough firmness to stop their hips from sinking.
Although the Nectar Premier is actually softer than the original Nectar, the mattress’s denser construction works great for heavyweight side sleepers who need support without compromising on softness. However, for heavyweight back sleepers and stomach sleepers, neither bed is ideal. Both of these foam beds lack the support for heavyweight stomach sleepers who need the most firmness of any sleeper type. And, for heavier back sleepers, while neither option is ideal, the Premier will feel supportive.
For lightweight sleepers, having a mattress that is too firm can lead to pressure points building up. So, the Nectar Premier’s softer feel works best for lightweight back sleepers needing cushioning, but also support. Next, for stomach sleepers, both Nectar beds are firm enough for lightweight sleepers to get proper hip support, and both beds perform similarly for side sleepers too.
The Nectar and Nectar Premier are both all-foam mattresses that feature a similar construction. A few key differences between these beds are that the Premier has a slightly thicker comfort layer, and it has better temperature regulation in its cover. Lastly, the Premier measures 13 inches tall, while the standard Nectar is a foot tall.

Foam Base Layer—7” | Foam Base Layer—7” |
Both the Nectar and the Premier have a breathable foam mattress cover that feels cool to the touch, but the Premier’s mattress cover also includes polyurethane fibers that offer additional temperature regulation.
Below the top cover, both the Premier and the original Nectar have a comfort layer that’s three inches of memory foam. This memory foam is designed to contour to the body and provide pressure relief. Additionally, both mattresses have cooling gel infused into this layer.
Next up is the foam dynamic support layer. The Nectar and the Premier both have this layer, but the Premier has an extra inch of dynamic support. Essentially, this support foam is designed to add more support and bounce to the bed, making the Premier slightly more responsive than the original.
Finally, at the bottom, both beds also have seven inches of high-density base foam. This support layer adds a base level of firmness to the bed and improves the mattress’s durability.

Now that we’ve gone through every layer of the Nectar and the Nectar Premier, let’s see how each of these mattresses perform:
For sleepers who sweat or overheat during the night, temperature control can be especially important. And, although foam mattresses usually don’t offer the best cooling, the Premier’s mattress cover does win out over the original Nectar for breathability.
Since foam mattresses tend to absorb and muffle unwanted movement, they usually offer above average motion isolation—which is true for both of these Nectar beds. That said, the original Nectar’s motion isolation is marginally better than the Premier’s, despite being the thinner mattress.
Next, for couples who like to spread out and use their entire bed, good edge support is key for making sure the bed doesn’t collapse at its edges. So, if edge support is a top priority for you, the Nectar Original’s firmer design should have you covered.
If you’re a lightweight sleeper, or if you’re a side sleeper, the Nectar Premier’s softer design and thicker foam comfort layer will be ideal for reducing pressure on key areas like the shoulders and hips. On the other hand, average-weight and heavier sleepers will get better pressure relief on the original Nectar.
For sleepers managing with pain, memory foam mattress, especially softer ones, can be a great way to cushion and reduce pressure. For lightweight sleepers, the Premier offers more softness and deeper cushioning; however, stomach sleepers and heavier sleepers may want to opt for the original Nectar for better hip and back alignment.
Both Nectar mattresses have similar constructions, but the Premier is a slightly thicker mattress which works to its advantage for durability. That said, the original Nectar has great edge support, so neither mattress is noticeably more durable.
As you might’ve guessed, since both mattresses are made by Nectar, you’ll be getting the same policies with either. Specifically, your new Nectar mattress will ship for free anywhere in the United States (excluding Hawaii and Alaska), and it should take about five to 10 business days to arrive.
Once your new Nectar bed is home, you’ll also receive a 365-night trial that begins after a 30-day break-in period. During this trial, you can return your Nectar, free of charge, and the company will donate it if possible.
Lastly, if you do plan on keeping your Nectar, you’ll be entitled to a Lifetime warranty that covers any defects and repair fees for the first 10 years. That said, this warranty does not cover misuse of your mattress, and, after 10 years, repairs to your mattress will incur a fee.

Between these two Nectar beds, the original is ideal for budget shoppers and sleepers wanting more firmness and edge support. On the other hand, lightweight sleepers and side sleepers will prefer the Premier’s softer feel, along with hot sleepers wanting the more breathable memory foam mattress too.
