Nectar Premier Video Review
Want to see how we tested the Nectar Premier mattress? Watch us walk through the performance tests in our Nerd lab, including recommendations for who we think will (and won’t) love the Nectar Premier.
Nectar Premier Mattress Firmness and Feel
Nectar Premier Mattress Firmness
Here at Mattress Nerd, we rate mattress firmness on a scale of 1–10, with one being the softest mattress you can imagine and 10 being the absolute firmest mattress you can imagine. The Nectar Premier falls in at a 5.5/10 on that scale. That means the Premier is less firm than the average mattress.
It’s going to be ideal for side and back sleepers, while stomach sleepers will likely need to look for a mattress that offers better support for the hips. Because the Premier is on the softer side of the scale, we don’t think it’ll be ideal for sleepers with heavyweight body types. For more supportive mattresses, see the best mattress for heavy people.
What Does the Nectar Premier Mattress Feel Like?
The Nectar Premier cover feels cool-to-the-touch, and the top layer of foam is soft and doughy. We feel deeply cushioned with we lie down on the mattress. There’s lots of sinkage around our shoulders and hips, but our curves still feel well supported. That’s probably due to the firmer support layers of foam below.
Which Sleeping Position Is the Nectar Premier Best For?
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 5 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Back Sleepers
While some memory foam mattresses aren’t supportive enough for back sleepers, the support layers of the Nectar Premier offer a great balance of comfort and support for that sleep category. Lightweight and average-weight back sleepers should sleep soundly and stay elevated on the Premier’s foam layers.
Our only caution would be for heavyweight back sleepers: If you’re in that category, you might experience some sinking around the hips and lower back. For more mattresses that distribute the body weight and protect the spine, see the best mattress for back sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
Whether you sleep on a low profile old mattress or a brand new, chock-full-of-features bed, all stomach sleepers need the same thing: a supportive, firm mattress that will allow them to remain in proper spinal alignment.
Because of the 5.5/10 firmness level of the Nectar Premier, average-weight and heavyweight stomach sleepers will likely not experience proper spinal alignment and comfort on the mattress. Because of their smaller, easier-to-support body frames, lightweight stomach sleepers will experience better support. Check out the best mattress for stomach sleepers for better options.
Side Sleepers
If you’re a side sleeper, you need a contouring and adaptive sleep surface to keep you properly elevated and aligned on a mattress without experiencing pressure buildup. In our Mattress Nerd testing lab, our team saw some definite pressure buildup along the hips and shoulders in lightweight side sleepers. That’s not ideal, especially if you already experience joint pain.
Still, mattresses tend to feel softer as body weight increases. We think it’s likely that average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers will experience proper spinal alignment and pressure relief. For pressure-relieving mattresses, see the best mattresses for side sleepers.
Combination Sleepers
If you find yourself waking up in a completely different sleep position than the one in which you began the night, you might just be a combination sleeper. While the Nectar isn’t the most responsive mattress we’ve seen, it should still offer enough rebound for most combination sleepers to move comfortably.
The Nectar Premier’s 5.5/10 firmness level will work best for lightweight and average-weight combination sleepers who don’t spend lots of time on their stomachs. If you’re a heavyweight combination sleeper, it might be best to find a mattress with a base layer of individually wrapped coils for ultimate support. For responsive mattresses that make movement easy, see the best mattress for combination sleepers.
Nectar Premier Mattress Performance
Is The Nectar Premier Mattress Cooling?
Temperature regulation on the Nectar Premier is a bit of a mixed bag. While the Nectar’s cooling cover is certainly cool to the touch, the bed likely doesn’t offer enough breathability to keep ultra-hot sleepers comfortable throughout the night.
Still, the bed’s cooling cover could be adequate if you’re a relatively warm sleeper who just needs a temperature-neutral experience. And although they’re a rarer group, it’s worth saying that cool sleepers (this might be you if you can’t sleep without socks on) won’t be as comfortable on the Premier’s slick, heat-wicking cover.
For other mattresses that feature cooling features, see the best cooling mattresses for hot sleepers.
Edge Support
“Support” in a mattress can refer to several different qualities. For instance, how well does the mattress support sleepers along the edges of the bed? The Nectar Premier’s all-foam construction probably won’t be supportive enough along the edges for heavyweight sleepers, but it will remain largely stable when lightweight or average-weight sleepers sit or lie along the edges of the mattress.
Responsiveness
Memory foam is known for its slow response time, and the Nectar Premier is a true memory foam mattress. As such, it’s not the most responsive bed we’ve tested, but it could work well enough for lightweight and average-weight combination sleepers who don’t move around too much at night.
Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?
Couples who sleep together know this best: there’s nothing worse than waking up from a partner’s movement in the middle of the night. That’s why it’s so important to choose a bed that cuts down on motion transfer. Because the Nectar Premier is an all-foam mattress, it helps with motion isolation and keeps movement stifled where it occurs.
During our in-house testing process, we noticed that a tossing and turning motion had very little effect on a “sleeping partner” lying on the other side of the mattress, creating a great mattress for couples.
Noise
The Nectar Premier mattress is exceptionally quiet, thanks to an all-foam construction.
Pain Relief
This mattress is ultimately a good fit for people with back pain who sleep on their back or sides. Oftentimes, back pain can stem from inadequate spinal alignment. For example, if you sleep on your stomach on a too-soft mattress, the spine can bow down too far in the bed and result in lumbar pain. While stomach sleepers likely won’t experience relief from back pain on the Premier, back and side sleepers should find adequate support.
The softer firmness level of the Premier is good for side sleepers in particular, allowing the hips to sink down far enough into the bed. If you are waking up in pain, see the best mattress for back pain.
Sex
The best mattresses for sex are those that have some bounce and breathability. With those qualifications in mind, the Nectar Premier is not our top choice for nocturnal adult activities. It will likely work well enough for most couples; it’s just not a top performer in this category.
Off-Gassing
As a memory foam mattress, you can expect some off-gassing from this bed. Not to worry, though—Nectar mattresses are CertiPUR-US certified for no toxic chemicals and low emissions. Any scent during the unboxing process is temporary and should be gone within a few hours or days.
Durability
As a high-quality memory foam mattress, we expect the Nectar Premier to last for seven to 10 years.
Construction: What’s Under the Surface?
Made of three foam layers beneath a breathable and cooling cover, the Nectar Premier mattress is designed specifically for hot sleepers. While our team isn’t sure it measures up to our idea of an ultimate cooling mattress, the Premier is still a great fit for back and side sleepers. The edge support present in the Nectar Premier mattress is surprisingly robust compared to other foam mattresses on the market.
Layer #1—Cooling Cover: The Nectar’s cover is surface infused with cooling power thanks to a polyethylene fiber. In the lab, our team discovered that the Nectar offered a cool-to-the-touch sensation.
Layer #2—Cooling Memory Foam Comfort Layer (3″): The softest layer of the mattress, the gel memory foam comfort layer of the Nectar Premier molds itself around sensitive joints and offers contouring. Hot sleepers will be grateful for the Phase Change Material (PCM) in this layer of gel foam (which Nectar calls ActiveCool HD).
Layer #3—Dynamic Support Layer (3″): The foam support layer offers some bounce and protects the body from sinking into the base layer below.
Layer #4—Foam Base Layer (7″): A high-density base layer offers support and stability to the mattress.
Layer #5—No Slip Cover: The bottom of the mattress cover is designed to prevent the mattress from slipping off its foundation.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?
Shipping & Unboxing
It’s a common question for everyone considering an online mattress purchase: what are the shipping policies like? Similar to many other bed-in-a-box mattress companies, the Nectar Premier ships for free to the continental U.S. An extra shipping charge will apply for orders to Alaska and Hawaii, and the brand doesn’t ship to U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and Guam.
White glove delivery is available for an additional fee, during which a team of delivery professionals will unbox and set up your new mattress. If you’d like white glove delivery, know that you’ll need to pay $149 per mattress and $45 per furniture item.
As far as the unboxing process, our team took about two minutes to release the Nectar Premier from its shrink wrapping and get it set up on the bed frame. We noticed a strong off-gassing odor when we first opened the mattress, but a properly ventilated room with a fan should help quell the smell if you experience it.
Warranty
The Nectar warranty is one of the best in the business: it’s a Lifetime “Forever warranty” that covers the original owner of the mattress for as long as they have the Nectar in their possession. The warranty covers mattress indentations deeper than 1.5”, as well as manufacturing defects in the cover and cracking in the foam that results from normal use. To read more about the Nectar warranty, check out our Nectar mattress warranty breakdown.
Trial Period & Returns
Starting on the day your Nectar mattress is delivered, you’ll have 365 days to try out the mattress and be sure it’s right for you. This year-long trial period allows you to try out the Nectar Premier during every season of the calendar year, which is especially helpful if you tend to sleep hot in warmer weather and want to test out the Premier’s cooling capabilities.
Customers who have opened their mattress from its box are required to adhere to a 30-day break-in period before returning their mattress. Still, there’s no fee to return the bed. Many of the best online mattress brands feature similar polices and procedures for their beds. To read more about Nectar’s return policy, check out our Nectar mattress return policy.
Addressing Nectar Premier Mattress Complaints
Poor Customer Service
Several customers complained of subpar or frustrating interactions with the Nectar customer service team. These reviews are balanced by customers who were very happy with their experience. Our only frustration with Nectar customer service has been the wait times for the online chat or phone line. I
f you’re interested in a Nectar mattress, we suggest doing most of your research online, rather than relying on the customer support team, and if you do plan to contact customer support, schedule extra time to hear back with the answers to your questions.
Causes Back Pain
A handful of customers commented that they experienced new or intensified back pain after sleeping on the Nectar Premier. A lot of these comments came from stomach sleepers who developed lower back pain while sleeping on the Premier.
We don’t recommend the Premier for stomach sleepers—it’s too soft, and doesn’t adequately support the hips. Stomach sleepers should look for a mattress with a firmness level of at least 6/10 or higher.
Also keep in mind that it can take up to a month for your body to fully adjust to a new mattress. That’s why Nectar allows returns after a 30-day break-in period. If you’re still experiencing discomfort after 30 days, take advantage of the 365-night trial period and return or exchange your mattress.
Comparing Different Nectar Mattresses
Nectar Premier vs. Nectar Original
Nectar Premier Mattress is Best For: | Nectar Original Mattress is Best For: |
Moderately Hot Sleepers | People Seeking Limited Motion Transfer |
Couples | Average-weight Back and Side Sleepers |
Sleepers who Sleep on the Edge Of Their Bed | Shoppers Looking For a Lifetime Warranty |
Coming in at a 6/10 on our firmness scale, the flagship Nectar mattress is just a bit firmer than the Nectar Premier. This all-foam mattress earned top marks from our team in motion isolation and edge support (similar to the Nectar Premier).
However, the Premier is a bit better at temperature control and slightly more responsive. The original Nectar is also slightly shorter than the Premier, measuring in at 12” tall.

The Nectar Premier Copper mattress is an upgraded version of the Nectar Premier. The main differences are the addition of extra cooling and pressure-relieving layers, as well as copper for temperature regulation. The Premier Copper is also an inch taller than the Premier (14″ vs. 13″) and more expensive.

One of the most well-loved names in the mattress industry, the Casper Original mattress features Zoned Support technology that offers advanced support along heavier parts of the body (think the spine and back) while offering more softness for the head and feet.
The Casper Original mattress probably won’t sleep as cool as the Nectar Premier mattress (after all, the Casper’s cover doesn’t include Phase Change Material). Still, the Casper offers great responsiveness and support.

While we technically classify the Purple mattress as an all-foam bed, that description doesn’t quite do the Purple justice. While the Purple includes a base layer of foam, the comfort layer is a slab of Purple’s Hyper-Elastic Polymer Grid. The Purple grid buckles under pressure points and helps offer relief to sensitive joints.
The Purple mattress is firmer than the Nectar Premier, at a 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale. Stomach sleepers should still steer clear of the Purple mattress, but we think the Purple will do an ever better job at cooling than the Nectar Premier.

The Tuft & Needle mattress has an ultra-simple, no-frills design. Still, the inexpensive all-foam Tuft & Needle has a 7/10 firmness level that’s much firmer than the Nectar Premier’s 5.5/10 firmness level. The Tuft & Needle can adequately support some stomach sleepers.
While the Tuft & Needle doesn’t have nearly the cooling capabilities present in the Nectar Premier, our team is impressed with the high value of this budget mattress. Customers can also upgrade the Tuft & Needle with antimicrobial protection.

Nectar Mattress FAQs
Do I need a box spring with the Nectar Premier mattress?
No. As long as the mattress is kept on a sturdy and supportive base, you're free to use a variety of bases with the Nectar Premier. An adjustable base will work well to keep your mattress supported and avoid voiding the warranty, as will a platform or slatted bed frame.
Is Nectar worth the money?
That's always a difficult question to answer, because everyone's budget is different. But ultimately the mattress should last a long time: anywhere between seven and 10 years. Not only will the mattress remain relatively durable for an all-foam bed, the 365-night trial and Lifetime warranty should give customers extra peace of mind.
Can I exchange the Nectar Premier instead of just returning it?
Yes, Nectar offers exchanges for their mattress models. In Nectar's case, an exchange is processed as a return then simply the repurchase of a new mattress. This exchange policy is similar to many other companies that sell mattresses online.
What’s the Bottom Line?
The Nectar Premier is a supportive, doughy mattress that feels cozy and supportive for side sleepers and those who sleep on their back. While we don’t think it’s one of the most cooling mattresses on the market (after all, it doesn’t include breathable springs or coils), the Nectar Premier includes Phase Change Material and a cool-to-the-touch cover. The slow-responding foam reminds us of a Tempur-Pedic feel.

Nectar Serenity Weighted Blanket
The Nectar Serenity Sleep blanket is one of the best weighted blankets for multi-seasonal use. The stiffness of the inner blanket detracts from its overall coziness, but it’s still worth your attention.
