Want the bottom line? Skip to the Nerd’s Take below.
At Mattress Nerd, we rate firmness on a 1–10 scale, with 1 being softer than a bed of feathers. The Nectar Premier Hybrid is on the firmer end of medium-firm at a 6.5/10. Back and stomach sleepers will enjoy this firmness the most because it helps to keep those positions aligned.
Lightweight sleepers (those under 130 lbs) will feel this bed as firmer, because they won’t sink as deeply into the softer foams. On the other hand, heavyweight sleepers (those over 230 lbs) will think this bed is softer because they sink deeper into the layers.
The Nectar Premier has that bouncy feel you’d expect from a mattress with coils. Think of a trampoline versus a ball pit: you stay elevated on the surface, instead of sinking deep into the layers. That being said, the top foam layers do provide enough cushion for comfort.
Body Type: | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers |
Lightweight< 130 lbs: | 5 | 5 | 3 |
Average-weight130–230 lbs: | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Heavyweight> 230 lbs: | 5 | 3 | 5 |
1 = Very poor 2 = Not good 3 = Fair 4 = Good 5 = Excellent
Back sleepers need a mattress that keeps the spine in neutral alignment; essentially, you should have the same posture that you would if you were standing up. The foams and support in the Premier Hybrid provides that alignment for lightweight, average-weight, and heavyweight back sleepers. Our list of the best mattresses for back sleepers has a ton of options like this.
If you sleep on your side, you know the feeling of waking up with your arm asleep. The best mattresses for side sleepers are soft enough that the hips and shoulders feel cushioned, but they are also supportive enough to keep the spine in a straight line.
Nectar does a great job at relieving pressure for average-weight and heavyweight side sleepers, but lightweight side sleepers may see pressure buildup with this mattress.
Stomach sleepers need a mattress that’s on the firmer end of the spectrum. A firmer mattress keeps stomach sleepers’ hips elevated and in line with the rest of the spine—this helps to prevent back pain.
Lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers will find the firmness level of the Premier Hybrid sufficient for alignment, but heavyweight stomach sleepers may find their hips dip a bit and should visit the best mattresses for stomach sleepers for more suitable options.
The best mattresses for combination sleepers are responsive enough for you to easily change sleeping positions. They should also be compatible with your primary sleeping positions. This mattress is responsive enough for all combination sleepers.
Lightweight combo sleepers will enjoy the Nectar Premier Hybrid if they switch between their back and stomach. Heavyweight combination sleepers that switch between their side and back wil like the Premier Hybrid. Average-weight combo sleepers should feel comfortable in all positions.
This bed has a cool-to-the-touch cover and breathable coils to help keep you from overheating as you sleep. That said, the Nectar won’t be actively cooling throughout the night, but it shouldn’t have you wake up sweating. You’ll sleep more temperature-neutral than cool. For a list of actively cooling beds, see the best cooling mattresses.
Edge support is an underrated mattress performance factor. If you like to sit on the edge of the bed to get ready or to tie your shoes, use the edges to get in and out of the bed, or even like to sleep there, you’ll notice when the edge support isn’t sufficient.
Though Nectar does have extra edge support built into the coils, we didn’t think it had outstanding edge support. You’ll sink down a bit if you sit there, but it did offer more support when lying along the edge.
If you change sleeping positions at night like it’s your job, or if you and your partner prioritize sex, a responsive mattress is a must. Responsiveness refers to how easy it is to move on the mattress surface. The coil support core in the Premier Hybrid makes for a responsive bed—we gave it a 5/5.
If you sleep with a partner, pet, or child, you know how it feels to be woken up when they toss, turn, or get up for that midnight bathroom run. A bed that isolates motion keeps that movement on their side of the bed. Coils are notorious for transferring motion, and we found that to be true in the Nectar Premier Hybrid’s case.
Though this bed feature pocketed coils, we didn’t hear anything as we moved on the bed for testing.
Spinal misalignment can be a primary cause of back pain on your mattress. Luckily, the Premier Hybrid does a great job of helping to keep you aligned. When it comes to joint pain, it shouldn’t be an issue unless you’re a lightweight side sleeper. You won’t sink in enough to get the benefits of the pressure-relieving foams. Check out the best mattresses for shoulder pain if that sounds like you.
Looking to use your bed for sex? The Nectar Premier Hybrid is responsive, breathable, and quiet, which checks off of the boxes on whether or not it’s good for you and your partner when the time comes.
You’ve probably heard of the new car smell or been overwhelmed by the scent when you open a Sharpie—it’s the same thing with a new mattress after you remove it from the plastic. The Nectar Premier Hybrid had a slight off-gassing scent that wasn’t overwhelming. This smell is normal and should dissipate in a few hours; just be sure to allow your mattress to air out after unboxing.
We all want a durable mattress, so we don’t have to think of purchasing another mattress for 10 years. The Premier Hybrid has a thick profile and supportive coils, so it should last you anywhere from seven to nine years. If the edge support was better, it’d be even longer.
The Nectar Premier Hybrid is 13” tall and is made of a combination of foam and coils. What makes this construction “Premier” is the addition of a pillowtop to the original Nectar Hybrid’s construction.
Quilted Cooling Cover: This mattress cover is cool to the touch and is infused with antimicrobial protection.
Memory Foam Layer: This memory foam layer makes up the pillowtop layer. It helps relieve pressure and conform to your body.
Support Foam Layer: The support layer keeps you elevated and aligned on the mattress.
Transition Layer: Transition foam makes for a bouncy surface and adds a seamless transition from foam to coils.
Innerspring Coils: These coils are individually wrapped rather than interconnected, lessening motion transfer. They are also stronger along the edge, making for extra edge support.
Base Layer: A final layer of foam adds stability to the mattress and provides a surface for the coils to rest.

The Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid is the most luxurious Nectar mattress. The cover is infused with copper, which the brand claims draws heat from the body, so it’s the clear winner for hot sleepers. However, the firmness of the Premier makes it a better choice for heavy people and stomach sleepers.

The Nectar Classic mattress is the brand’s flagship foam model. We like to describe it as a Tempur-Pedic mattress on a budget, so it works very well for side sleepers with joint pain and isolates motion well for couples. The Premier Hybrid is more responsive for combo sleepers and more supportive for heavy people.

The Purple Hybrid uses the proprietary Purple grid and combines it with foam for an utr-responsive and cooling bed. On the other hand, the Nectar Premier Hybrid has more of a foam feel rather than the floating feel Purple has. It also relieves pressure better for side sleepers when compared to Purple.

The Layla Hybrid is a flippable hybrid with a softer side and a firmer side, so it’s perfect for indecisive shoppers who aren’t sure which firmness they’d prefer. Plus, it offers better joint pain relief for side sleepers. The Nectar is better for hot sleepers because of its level of breathability; it’s also more responsive for combo sleepers.

Yes and no. The Nectar Premier foam mattress is medium-soft while the Nectar Premier Hybrid mattress is medium-firm. If you’re looking for a firmer bed or you are a heavier-weight sleeper, the hybrid is the one you should pick. Lighter sleepers will prefer the foam version of the Premier.
Nectar is a good bed brand if you are looking for a mattress brand with generous policies, such as a 365-night sleep trial period and a Lifetime warranty. It’s not a good brand if you’re looking for a super soft bed, super firm bed, or an organic mattress.
Nectar mattresses should last anywhere between seven to 10 years, depending on the materials and how well you care for them. The hybrid models should last longer than the foam beds. If you use a mattress protector and regularly rotate your bed, it should last a while.
The Nectar Premier Hybrid is best for people with back pain, back sleepers, and those who toss and turn. If you are lighter and sleep on your side, on a budget, or need supportive dges, the Premier Hybrid may not be the best mattress for you.
