Nectar Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel

Nectar Hybrid Mattress Firmness

The Mattress Nerd firmness scale ranges from 1–10, with 10 being the firmest. The Nectar Hybrid is 6.5/10 on our scale, or medium-firm. A medium-firm mattress works best for back and stomach sleepers because it keeps them better aligned than a softer bed.

What Does the Nectar Hybrid Feel Like?

With a memory foam hybrid mattress, like Nectar, you would expect it to conform easily to your body, but that wasn’t the case. It feels more like a polyfoam mattress: firmer with an elevating feeling. It only hugs around the parts of your body that make an impression, like the hips and shoulders.

The coils inside the hybrid make it feel extremely bouncy, so it’ll be very easy to move around on.

What Sleeping Position Is Nectar Hybrid Mattress Best For?

Body Type:Back SleepersStomach SleepersSide Sleepers
Lightweight< 130 lbs:443
Average-weight130–230 lbs:543
Heavyweight> 230 lbs:532

1 = Very poor     2 = Not good     3 = Fair     4 = Good     5 = Excellent

Back Sleepers

The best mattresses for back sleepers hug your spine, but keep it in neutral alignment, which helps to prevent back pain. The Nectar Hybrid may be too firm for comfort to lightweight back sleepers, but it’ll help keep you aligned. Average and heavyweight should find comfort and alignment on the mattress.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers need a mattress that hugs the hips and shoulders, helping to keep them pressure-free. The spine should also be in a straight line to help prevent back pain. Light and average-weight side sleepers should find good alignment on the Nectar Hybrid, but will see pressure issues in the shoulders. Heavyweight side sleepers won’t see the best alignment and will also have pressure issues on the Nectar.

Side sleepers looking for a better option should check out our list of the best mattresses for side sleepers.

Stomach Sleepers

The Nectar Hybrid will be firm enough to help keep lightweight and average-weight stomach sleepers comfortable and aligned. On the other hand, heavyweight stomach sleepers may want to search for a firmer bed; anything on our best mattresses for stomach sleepers list will fit the bill.

Combination Sleepers

The best mattresses for combination sleepers are bouncy, responsive, and easy to move around on. The Nectar Hybrid isn’t terribly responsive for lightweight, average-weight, or heavyweight sleepers. It may take some work but those who prefer to switch between their backs and stomachs will feel the most comfortable.

Nectar Hybrid Mattress Performance

Is the Nectar Hybrid Mattress Cooling?

I wouldn’t call the Nectar Hybrid a cooling mattress, but I wouldn’t say it sleeps hot either—it lands somewhere in the middle. The mattress cover is cool to the touch, but that cooling sensation doesn’t last all night long. The coil layer provides a decent amount of airflow that should keep you from sleeping hot. If you’re looking for an actively cooling mattress, check out the best cooling mattresses.

Edge Support

Edge support refers to the level of support around the perimeter of the mattress—essentially, do you feel like you’re going to fall off when you lie there? The Nectar Hybrid has reinforced edges, which makes for great edge support. This is good news for seniors and others who use the edges to get in and out of bed.

Responsiveness

A responsive bed is easy to move around on, so it’s a crucial factor for combination sleepers and people who use the bed for sex. The bouncy coils in the Nectar are muffled by the foam layers—you’ll probably feel stuck when changing sleeping positions at night.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

If you’ve ever shared the bed with a partner and swore you could feel every movement your bed partner made, that’s called motion transfer, and that’s not what we want. You want motion isolation, which keeps motion on one side of the bed. The Nectar is a great bed for couples, because the memory foam layer offers great motion isolation.

Noise

The Nectar Hybrid contains a support layer of pocketed coils, which can make some noise occasionally when you move. It’s not loud enough to be distracting to your sleep.

Pain Relief

The pain you get from a mattress is most likely dependent on your sleeping position: side sleepers often have hip and shoulder pain while back sleepers tend to suffer from back pain.

The Nectar does a good job keeping pressure off of your hips and low back, but side sleepers will see pressure buildup in the shoulder area. If you want to prevent this, check out our list of the best mattresses for shoulder pain

Sex

The best mattresses for sex are responsive, cooling, durable, and quiet. The Nectar Hybrid isn’t too responsive, so you and your partner may not be able to move around as freely as you’d like.

Off-Gassing

Off-gassing is the “new mattress smell” you may experience after unpacking your mattress. This is completely normal with mattresses that feature foam. To get rid of it, simply air out your mattress for a few hours before you put sheets on.

Durability

We all want a durable mattress—mattresses are quite a financial commitment after all. The Nectar Hybrid has above-average durability thanks to the durable coils and great edge support.

Nectar Hybrid Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?

Nectar is a hybrid mattress that utilizes foam and coils to keep you comfortable and supported. In this section, I’ll break down each layer, so you can see how it informs performance.

nectar hybrid consturction

Quilted Cover: The mattress is topped with a cool-to-the-touch cover. It also uses antimicrobial properties for a longer lifespan.

Gel-Infused Memory Foam: The top comfort layer is memory foam infused with gel to keep you cool. This layer also helps relieve pressure from your hips, shoulders, and low back.

Response Layer: This transition layer keeps you elevated on the mattress surface.

Individually Wrapped Coils: The primary support layer is pocketed coils that transfer less motion than traditional innerspring coils. This layer is also reinforced around the edges for excellent edge support.

Base Layer: The final layer is 1” of foam to add stability to the mattress.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

The Nectar Hybrid ships free to the contiguous U.S. (there is a $150 shipping fee to Alaska and Hawaii). White glove delivery and mattress removal is available for an additional $149.

The mattress will arrive at your door as a bed in a box. Simply remove the bed from the box and unroll it from the plastic. We found that it did take a little bit of time to inflate to full size, so allow it a few hours to air out and expand.

Warranty

Nectar offers a Lifetime warranty (they call the Forever Warranty) on all of their mattresses. This means you are covered against manufacturing defects and impressions deeper than an inch and a half for the entire time you own this bed.

Trial Period & Returns

You can exchange or return your Nectar Hybrid for a full refund during the 365-night sleep trial period window. If you’re not feeling your mattress, contact Nectar’s customer service and they will arrange your refund and help get the bed picked up. To learn more about warranty and returns, see our full Nectar review.

Nectar Hybrid Mattress FAQs

Nectar Hybrid Mattress FAQs

Which Is Better: A Hybrid or a Memory Foam Mattress?

A memory foam mattress is better for people with aches in pains in their hips, shoulders, and lower back. A hybrid mattress is better for heavier folks and those who tend to toss and turn at night. A memory foam mattress is more likely to cost less than a hybrid.

Can You Flip a Nectar Mattress?

You cannot flip a Nectar mattress. They are designed to be one-sided only with the comfort layers on top and the support layers on the bottom. To maximize the durability of your Nectar, rotate it 180 degrees every couple of months rather than flipping it.

What is the Difference Between the Original Nectar and the Nectar Hybrid?

The original Nectar mattress is an all-foam mattress, meaning it’s softer, better for pressure relief, but also run hots. The Nectar Hybrid is a hybrid, meaning it has both foam components and coils, making it firmer, more supportive, and a bit cooler.

Is the Nectar Hybrid Good for Couples?

Scoring 4.5 out of 5 on motion isolation, we’d say… yes! You won’t feel your partner moving on the other side of the bed.

The Nerd’s Take: What’s the Bottom Line?

The Nectar Hybrid isn’t as cooling or responsive as the brand claims, but it’s a great choice for back sleepers, stomach sleepers, and heavy people. The edge support on this mattress makes it a good option for seniors. Combination sleepers may want to keep looking.
