The Loom & Leaf and the Helix Midnight mattresses are both medium-firm mattresses that are good for couples. But these beds have several differences, too. Take a look at how they compare in our testing methodology.
We recommend the Loom & Leaf for back sleepers or people who like memory foam, while the Helix Midnight is ideal for side sleepers or people who sleep hot.
Loom & Leaf is best for… | Helix Midnight is best for… |
Back sleepers of all body types | Side sleepers of all body types |
People looking for a TEMPUR-Pedic alternative | Hot sleepers |
People who like all-foam | Couples |
The Loom & Leaf comes in Relaxed Firm (6/10) or Firm (8/10). The Helix Midnight is a 6/10, meaning it’s considered medium-firm.
The Loom & Leaf comes in two firmness options. Relaxed Firm is a 6/10 or Firm is an 8/10. We recommend Relaxed Firm for back and side sleepers, while Firm is best for stomach sleepers, back sleepers, or sleepers with back pain.
The Helix Midnight is a 6/10. If you’re looking for something softer than medium-firm, try the Helix Sunset instead.
Both firmness options of the Loom & Leaf have a similar feel. This all-foam bed contours to your body and has a dense feel. If you’re in search of good responsiveness and motion isolation, choose the Firm.
The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress. This means it has both memory foam and coils, allowing you to benefit from soft cushioning and strong support.
The Loom & Leaf has a typical all-foam “feel” for a memory foam mattress. This bed has added lumbar support for your back. It’s also easy to move around on.
We recommend the Helix Midnight for back and side sleepers. Lightweight or average-weight stomach sleepers will be comfortable, but heavyweight stomach sleepers will likely prefer a different bed.
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 4 |
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 4 | 5 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 4 | 4 | 5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 3 | 4 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
If you’re an average-weight back sleeper, either firmness option of the Loom & Leaf will be good for you. Average-weight side sleepers and combination sleepers will also be comfortable. And stomach sleepers will benefit from the bed’s spinal alignment.
The Helix Midnight works well for average-weight back and stomach sleepers. It also promotes proper spinal alignment, which is helpful for side sleepers. But combination sleepers might feel “stuck” in the memory foam top as they move around on the bed.
We recommend the Loom & Leaf Firm option for heavyweight back and stomach sleepers, and Relaxed Firm for heavyweight side sleepers. But this bed likely isn’t the best fit for combination sleepers. Because of the foam, you may not be able to easily move around.
Heavyweight side and back sleepers will be comfortable on the Helix Midnight. However, the Helix Plus is a better option for heavyweight stomach sleepers and combination sleepers.
Both firmness options of the Loom & Leaf are a good fit for lightweight back and stomach sleepers. But we don’t recommend this all-foam bed for side or combination sleepers.
When it comes to the Helix Midnight, the spinal alignment is great for lightweight side sleepers, and the cushioning and support help back and stomach sleepers, too. But lightweight combination sleepers might not be able to easily move around throughout the night.
The Loom & Leaf and Helix Midnight each come out at 12” tall.

In this category, the Loom & Leaf gets a 3 and Helix gets a 4. While it’s easy for all-foam mattresses like the Loom & Leaf to sleep hot, this bed includes materials with cooling elements. And the Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress, so its coils help promote airflow.
In this category, the Loom & Leaf gets a 5 and Helix gets 4.5. We recommend both of these beds for couples because they do a great job of isolating motion — if a partner or pet is moving around on the bed, you won’t feel it.
In this category, the Loom & Leaf gets a 4 and the Helix gets a 5. The Loom & Leaf’s edge support is just average. But the Helix has excellent edge support because of the strong layer of coils in the bottom of the bed.
In this category, the Loom & Leaf gets a 4 and Helix gets a 4.5. The Loom & Leaf makes it easy to maintain spinal alignment. And for average-weight or lightweight sleepers, the Midnight offers good enough pressure relief.
Both mattresses may do a decent job of providing enough support to offer pain relief. However, you will see a greater benefit in this area if you weigh less than 230 lbs.
In this category, the Loom & Leaf gets a 4.5 and Helix gets a 4.5. If you take good care of your Loom & Leaf, it should last around 8 to 10 years. The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress and should last 7 to 8 years.
The Loom & Leaf comes with free shipping. It has a lifetime warranty and a 365-night sleep trial period.
Helix mattresses also have free shipping in the U.S. The Midnight has a 10-year limited warranty and a 100-night sleep trial period.

Both the Loom & Leaf and Helix Midnight are good beds for couples, or people who are lightweight or an average weight. But the Loom & Leaf does a great job of offering that all-foam feel if that’s what you’re looking for — and if you sleep hot, the hybrid Midnight is best.
We don’t recommend the Loom & Leaf for heavyweight sleepers (over 230 lbs), especially if you sleep on your stomach. This bed is a better fit for average-weight or lightweight sleepers. If you do want to go for the Loom & Leaf, choose the Firm option for heavyweight back and stomach sleepers and Relaxed Firm for side sleepers.
The Helix Midnight is a hybrid mattress. It has a “Soft Touch Design” mattress cover; a comfort layer made of the company’s proprietary Memory Plus Foam; a polyfoam transition layer; a layer of individually wrapped coils; and a layer of strong “DuraDense” foam.
Yes. Since the Midnight is a hybrid mattress, it does a good job of keeping you cool while you sleep. The layer of individually wrapped coils adds extra breathability to the mattress, and the mattress cover is cooling, too. We recommend the Midnight for people who sleep hot.
