Look Inside The GhostPillow Memory Foam
The memory foam GhostPillow has one of the coolest constructions (both aesthetically and temperature-wise) we’ve seen. This starts with the cool-to-the-touch cover made with a patented material that the brand calls Ghost Ice Fabric, which is supposed to neutralize body heat, and an inner mesh cover that adds more airflow.
Gel Memory Foam
The gel memory foam inside is perforated with large, breathable air holes for heat to escape; plus, it features Phase Change Material, which the brand claims adjusts to your body heat as it changes throughout the night.

GhostBed calls the GhostPillow one of the “coolest pillows ever,” and we agree to some extent. There are a ton of cooling materials, from a cool-to-the-touch cover to foam that uses Phase Change Material, but any way you slice it, foam still retains heat more than other pillow materials. However, the cooling infusions did keep me from overheating at night, it just didn’t feel actively cool after the initial lie-down period.
Make no mistake, this is still a feat for a memory foam pillow, and we were so impressed, the GhostPillow made our list of the best cooling pillows.

The loft and medium firmness of this pillow make it a great option for neck alignment when it comes to side and back sleeping. Most side sleepers should feel like their neck is in line with their spine and back sleepers should feel like the natural curve of the neck is maintained. The foam in the GhostPillow is designed in the United States but is then sent to Asia for the advanced cooling technology, according to the brand. Production abroad is not as regulated as it is here in the U.S. However, the foam is CertiPUR-US Certified, meaning the foam is non-toxic and free from harmful chemicals. Also, this certification means the GhostPillow should be resistant to dust mite and hypoallergenic.

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that you can’t wash foam, so you can never fully clean this pillow. The good news is that the cover is removable and machine washable. The brand says it can even substitute as a pillowcase.

Side sleepers need a pillow that fills the gap between the head, neck, and shoulder without overextending the neck. The GhostPillow completely filled that gap for me while side sleeping. My only watchout is for side sleepers with broader shoulders or a bigger frame. This pillow is not adjustable, so there is no way to make it more lofty if that’s what you need.

Back Sleeping
The best pillows for back sleepers keep your head in a neutral position and keep your neck aligned with the rest of your spine. The GhostPillow almost has a buoyant feel to where your head sinks in a little bit, and the support makes your head feel like it’s floating with zero effort on your part. Back sleepers of all sizes should enjoy the GhostPillow.
Stomach Sleeping
Stomach sleepers need a flat, supportive pillow to stay aligned, and the GhostPillow does not fit the bill. It is far too lofty for stomach sleepers to get comfortable, and there isn’t enough sink to make up for it. I woke up with neck pain in the morning after attempting to stomach sleep with this pillow. Pros
- Great support: The foam used in the GhostPillow offers soft comfort with a really supportive core, so if you sleep on your side or back, you should feel really supported.
- Tons of cooling infusions: Cooling down foam takes a lot of work, okay? The GhostPillow features a cooling cover, aerated foam, and Phase Change Material to create initial cooling when you lie down and keeps you from overheating at night.
- No pillowcase necessary: The pillow cover is completely removable and machine washable, so you don’t even need to use a pillowcase if you don’t want to.
Cons
- Off-gassing: The GhostPillow is made of pure memory foam, which is pretty guilty of off-gassing. When I first opened this pillow, it needed to air out for two days before the smell went away.
- Too lofty for stomach sleepers: Stomach sleepers need a flatter pillow because of the harsh angle the neck is turned. The GhostPillow is just too thick for most stomach sleepers to stay comfy.
