Dreamfoam Latex Mattress Firmness and Feel
Dreamfoam Latex Mattress Firmness
The Dreamfoam Latex’s feel and appropriateness for different body types and sleeping positions will depend heavily upon the firmness setting chosen. In general, we recommend the soft option for lightweight sleepers, the medium option for average-weight sleepers and the firm option for heavyweight sleepers. The bed’s firmness settings tend to run a little firmer than average according to customer reviews, so choose your setting accordingly and review our Mattress Firmness Guide before you make your pick.
What Does the Dreamfoam Latex Feel Like?
The OEKO-Tex Talalay latex in the top layer has a springy, bouncy feel. It offers gentle conforming support without the viscous characteristic of memory foam, making it easier to change positions throughout the night if you’re a combination sleeper. It also has a hybrid design, which will prevent you from feeling “stuck” in the mattress, but rather elevated on the surface. For more hybrid options, see our list of the best hybrid mattresses.
How Firm is this Mattress?
Although the Dreamfoam Latex firmness options are described as soft, medium and firm, all three feel firmer than expected. The Talalay latex top layer offers soft comfort when you initially lie down, but since this is the only comfort layer in the bed, you’ll feel the density from the support core rather quickly. Most reviewers write that the mattress they selected feels too firm at first but softens within two weeks and feels more comfortable as their body adjusts. In general, we recommend the softer options for side sleepers and the medium or firm option for back and stomach sleepers. See our sleep positions ratings table below for more details. However, if know you want to sink into the mattress layers, check out the best soft mattresses.
What Sleeping Position Is The Dreamfoam Latex Mattress Best For?
*we tested the medium firmness option*
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 3 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 3 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 2 |
1 = Very poor 2 = Not good 3 = Fair 4 = Good 5 = Excellent
Back Sleepers
The Dreamfoam Latex is on the firmer side, regardless of which firmness option you choose. This makes it a nice choice for back sleepers, who need an even, supportive sleeping surface that will keep the hips aligned with the shoulders. Average-weight and lightweight sleepers should find that the top layer of Talalay latex contours gently around the shoulders and underneath the lumbar spine while the dense foam core supports the lower back.
If you are looking for a supportive mattress with some pressure relief, see the best mattress for the back sleepers.
Heavyweight back sleepers will feel most supported on the firm version of the Dreamfoam Latex, but as the mattress softens over several years’ time, it may struggle to provide adequate support for this body type. We typically recommend mattresses with a thicker profile for added durability, and since this bed has a 10″ profile, despite its hybrid construction, it won’t be as durable as other plus size specific beds. For more options for heavyweight folks, check out our best mattresses for heavy people page.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers tend to sleep best on firm mattresses, so we recommend choosing an Dreamfoam Latex with a firmness level that’s one step above our general recommendations (medium for lightweight sleepers, firm for average-weight sleepers, etc.).
Like back sleepers, heavyweight sleepers may feel fine on the firm version of this mattress at first, but those who carry weight in the mid-section may experience too much sagging in the torso over time.
For better choices, see our picks for the best mattress for stomach sleepers.
Side Sleepers
Side sleepers do best on soft mattresses, and the soft version of the Dreamfoam Latex may provide enough body contouring at the hips and shoulders for lightweight and average-weight side sleepers. For most, however, the 2” layer of Talalay latex will be too thin to provide adequate comfort in this position.
Heavyweight side sleepers, similarly, may feel comfortable at first, but it’s likely that their bodyweight will press down through the comfort portion into the firm core of the bed, which may cause discomfort at the hips and shoulders.
If you are looking for a mattress that cradles around the body, see the best mattresses for side sleepers.
Combination Sleepers
If you sleep primarily on your back or stomach and are lightweight or average-weight, the Dreamfoam Latex is an affordable option with responsiveness that should make it easy to change positions throughout the night. Talalay latex is known for having a buoyant quality that responds quickly to pressure while relieving tension, so you shouldn’t ever feel like it’s difficult to change positions, making it a great mattress for combination sleepers.
Dreamfoam Latex Mattress Performance
Does the Dreamfoam Latex Mattress Sleep Hot?
Hot sleepers should sleep very comfortable on this bed. Talalay latex has a breathable design and cell structure that helps create that temperature neutral environment. It delivers much more airflow than memory foam and even other latex foams to help you sleep comfortably and serves as a great mattress for hot sleepers. Plus, you’ll get a hybrid construction, which means the coils will also allow for more airflow throughout the bed.
Is the Dreamfoam Latex Mattress Good for Couples?
If you and your partner share similar firmness preferences, this bed could be a nice choice for you. While it is more responsive than a memory foam mattress and has a coil layer, the motion transfer isn’t too bad. If motion isolation is a top priority for you, see the best mattress for couples.
How’s the Edge Support?
The support around the perimeter of this bed should feel substantial at first but may fade with time. Many customers who’ve owned the product for more than five years wrote reviews about still loving how the bed feels overall but feeling disappointed with the sagging occurring at the edges. If you plan to purchase a smaller size to share with a partner or enjoy sitting on the edge of your bed, we recommend the firm version of the Dreamfoam Latex or selecting a hybrid mattress with dedicated edge support features. To figure out which size mattress if right for you, see our picks for the best queen size mattress and best king size mattress.
Dreamfoam Latex Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?
The Dreamfoam Latex mattress is a hybrid mattress that incorporates hypoallergenic Talalay latex and comes in three firmness levels (soft, medium, and firm). The quick response from the latex means that you’ll receive a lot of mobility from this bed and can change positions while still feeling supported. It also sleeps cool since latex is not likely to trap body heat, and the coil layer helps dissipate any heat retention.
Layer #1: Cover Quilted with 1.5″ of Soft Reflex Foam
The first layer of the mattress is a 1.5” quilted foam top for added plushness. Two .75″ inch layers are stacked on top of each other for pressure relief and added responsiveness.
Layer #2: Talalay Latex Comfort Foam Layer
The latex comfort portion is made with 100% Talalay latex, which is known for it’s soft, yet buoyant feel. Latex is also a great bedding material due to its lack of body heat retention. It’ll gently relieve pressure points while avoiding the quicksand feeling of memory foam. It immediately returns to its natural form after pressure is released, giving the bed a mobile, bouncy feel that’s especially appealing to combination sleepers.
Layer #3: 6″ Ascension® Individually Encased Coil Support Layer
The support layer of the Dreamfoam Latex mattress is made up of 6″ individually wrapped coils, which means your body weight will be supported ergonomically.
Layer #4: Flex Base Foam
The final layer of the bed is a high-density foam base that reinforces and stabilizes the coil layer for greater durability.

Shipping & Unboxing
All Dreamfoam mattresses are built in Phoenix, Arizona, and most are shipped via FedEx or UPS. Shipping is free to the contiguous USA, but shipping to Hawaii and Alaska starts at $125 per mattress. Shipping to Canada starts at $250 per mattress. The Dreamfoam Latex will arrive compressed and rolled inside a box. To set up the mattress, remove it from the plastic wrap, unroll it and allow it to expand. The mattress will have a slight off-gassing scent upon unboxing, but it should dissipate within 72 hours.
Warranty
Brooklyn Bedding offers a 10-year warranty for its Dreamfoam mattress collection. The warranty covers defects and deterioration in the foam, splitting and cracking of the material under normal usage and proper handling, impressions greater than 1” and sagging. If a defect occurs during the warranty period, Brooklyn Bedding will repair or replace your Dreamfoam mattress.
Trial Period & Returns
All Dreamfoam mattresses come with a 120-night sleep trial period. You’ll have almost four months to test out the mattress at home, and if you decide you don’t like it, you can contact support@brooklynbedding.com to initiate a return for a full refund. Brooklyn Bedding requires customers to sleep on the mattress for at least 30 nights prior to initiating a return or exchange. The company will send you a prepaid return label to save you the hassle of return shipping costs. Keep in mind that delivery shipping fees to Alaska, Hawaii and Canada are non-refundable. Many of the other top online mattress brands feature similar polices and trial periods.

The Lucid Latex Hybrid is another budget-friendly mattress that incorporates latex and has pocketed coils as the support core. While available in 10” and 12” heights, the Lucid Latex Hybrid is only available in a medium-firm firmness level. The top layers of latex in both of these mattresses allow them to offer buoyancy and mobility, coupled with the coil layers for added support.
The Lucid Latex is also slightly more affordable, so if you’re looking for the best price, we recommend it over the Dreamfoam Latex. The Dreamfoam Latex is a better choice for shoppers who want to choose their firmness setting.

Nectar is one of the most popular bed-in-a-box brands, offering two all-foam mattresses that tend to be universally comfortable. The brand also offers a full year trial and a Forever warranty and high-quality materials for the price, all of which attract a wide range of shoppers. However, the Nectar mattresses are more costly than the Dreamfoam beds.
One of the biggest selling points of the Dreamfoam Latex is that it’s an affordable mattress, and you also get to choose your firmness setting. If you’re shopping on a budget or want a bed for a guest bedroom that’s rarely used, it’s probably a better pick than the Nectar. We recommend the Nectar if you’re a side sleeper and love a viscous, memory foam sleep experience (as opposed to the bounce of latex).

What’s the Bottom Line? Should You Buy the Dreamfoam Latex Mattress?
The Dreamfoam Latex mattress got a construction upgrade when it went from an all-foam latex bed to a latex hybrid, aka they replaced the foam support layer with coils. This leveled up its durability, overall support, and breathability— while still maintaining an affordable price point.
Previously, critics of the old construction said, in spite of the bed’s buoyant pressure relief and breathability, it lost it’s overall the longer you slept on it. While this is inevitable with mattresses regardless of construction, we like to see mattresses last at least 7 to 10 years, in order to be worth your investment. In the case of the previous construction, customers noticed a lack of support in under 5 years— not good.
However, with the updated model, that is no longer an issue. Considering the new construction, we can forecast a much longer lifespan for the Dreamfoam Latex Hybrid mattress. The addition of coils will keep you elevated on the surface, and less likely to experience indentation or sagging as quickly as you would on an all-foam bed. All in all, this mattress is for people who want a latex hybrid bed, but don’t want to spend more than $1,500, and still have the option of choosing their level of support.
