The luxury DreamCloud will cost you a little more than the Nectar, but should you spend the extra money? That depends. Each mattress responds differently depending on its construction, as well as your weight and favorite sleeping position. To compare these mattresses, we put them to the test in our sleep lab.
You have a lot of decisions when mattress shopping, so we’re here to help un-muddy the water. With DreamCloud, you’ll likely experience a cool night of sleep, undisturbed by the movement of a partner, pet, or child. On the Nectar, you’ll pay a little less and find pressure relief for your shoulders and hips, plus the traditional “hug” each night from your memory foam mattress.

Get all the nitty gritty details about these two mattresses with Loren and Becca. They’ll put each mattress to the test, showing how each performs, to help you decide between the luxury DreamCloud and all-foam Nectar.
At Mattress Nerd, we use a firmness scale to rate mattresses from 1 to 10, 1 being ultra soft and 10 being the hardest mattress out there. The medium-firm DreamCloud and Nectar scored similarly, but have other features that affect your sleep experience.
The DreamCloud is a 6.5/10 firmness with a coil base that enables it to support back sleepers of any weight, as well as stomach sleepers under 230 lbs. Lightweight sleepers who spend much time on their side should look for a softer bed to experience cushioning relief in their hips and shoulders.
Though rated at 6/10, Nectar’s all-foam materials aren’t a good match for heavyweight sleepers. But those under 230 lbs should be reasonably happy, especially if you prefer your back, side, or a combination.
DreamCloud wants you to “sink-in-just-right” to their top foam layers while enjoying the support of the innerspring coils. This means you’ll feel a little bounce and will rest more “on” the mattress vs. “in” the memory foam.
The Nectar has a more traditional “hug” feel. Our testers noted it takes a few seconds to return to its original shape. But it isn’t as doughy as old-school memory foam, so you shouldn’t feel stuck.
If you love to sleep on your back, you’ll likely love to sleep on the DreamCloud. Its top-notch performance scores mean it’s probably a top-notch choice for you, as well as for stomach sleepers weighing less than 230 lbs. Side sleepers heavy enough to sink into the memory foam will experience pressure relief, but those under 130 lbs probably won’t. Instead, read about our best soft mattresses.
The Nectar is not too hard or soft, but just right for back and side sleepers in the lightweight to average-weight categories. Stomach sleepers weighing over 130 lbs might prefer a firmer mattress to keep your hips from sinking in too much, like one of our best mattresses for stomach sleepers.

The DreamCloud is great for combination sleepers in this weight category. The hybrid combination of memory foam and coils creates that balanced feel of cushion and support, whether you prefer your back or stomach. And even if you roll to your side at times, there’s enough pressure relief in the foam layers to contour to your shoulders and hips.
Back sleepers will find the support they need on the Nectar and side sleepers should especially love the way the memory foam cradles your pressure points. We don’t recommend it for stomach sleepers. You need a firmer mattress that keeps your hips elevated.
If you love sleeping on your back, the DreamCloud has you covered, even making our list of best mattresses for heavy people. Side sleepers should also be content with the DreamCloud’s pressure relief in your hips and shoulders area. But if you sleep on your stomach, your hips will sink in too far which can cause lower back pain, so opt for a firmer mattress.
We don’t recommend the Nectar for sleepers weighing over 230 lbs. All-foam beds have a harder time balancing cushion with support in this category.
If sleeping on your back, stomach, or switching between the two is your sweet spot, the DreamCloud has a design that could exceed your expectations. Unfortunately, side sleepers need to look for something softer in order to get the benefits of the cloud-like cushion.
Here’s where the Nectar is actually a better solution—for those of you under 130 lbs. While you’ll find the best support on your back, the the all-foam Nectar’s memory foam cradles stomach and side sleepers too. It does a decent job of keeping your spine in a healthy, natural “S” shape.
The hybrid DreamCloud is a pretty thick mattress, measuring 14″ tall, mostly due to its 8.5″ coil layer. The all-foam Nectar has a 12″ profile and is constructed of several types of foam, each with a specific purpose.
DreamCloud Mattress Materials | Nectar Mattress Materials |
---|---|
Quilted Cover (foam and cashmere blend) | Quilted Cover (plush foam and polyester blend) |
Gel-infused Memory Foam | Gel-infused Memory Foam (3″) |
Foam Transition Layer | Adaptive Memory Foam (2″) |
Support Coils (individually wrapped steel coils) | High-density Foam Layer (7″) |
Base Foam Layer | Mattress Cover (prevents slipping) |
The quilted cover on a mattress is mostly to protect the materials underneath, but the DreamCloud’s foam and cashmere cover was a pleasure for the Nerds to rest directly on during our testing in the lab. The Nectar’s foam and polyester blended cover is designed to wick away excess body heat away.
Both the DreamCloud and Nectar have gel-infused memory foam which cools things down much better than traditional memory foam. Earlier versions of memory foam used your body heat to shape the foam. Now, they use gel to mold to your body while also drawing away body heat.
The DreamCloud mattress has a transition foam that helps you sink in just enough, while not feeling the coils underneath. Then the 8.5″ inch coil layer lies atop a thin foam layer to support the mattress. This foam/coil sandwich helps deliver better airflow, as well as increases motion isolation.
The Nectar’s adaptive memory foam is more responsive than regular memory foam. Then there’s a pretty standard 7″ high-density foam base for stability and durability.

Memory foam mattresses are known for retaining your body heat, so a hybrid like the DreamCloud looks to offset this problem with increased airflow from the innerspring coils. As a result, the DreamCloud offers a cooler night of sleep. If temperature control is important to you, the all-foam Nectar isn’t likely to impress.
If you sleep with a partner, pet, or child, movement is a predictable problem. “Motion isolation” is a measure of how well a mattress isolates this movement at the source. Here’s where the Nectar performs a hair better than the DreamCloud, as is expected with its all-foam construction. But both mattresses performed above average in this category.
When you sit on the edge of the bed, you don’t want to end up on the floor. Edge support is also helpful in creating more usable surface area, a plus if you share the bed. And if you need to get up and down slowly, a stable perimeter is essential. Our testers felt the DreamCloud and Nectar were both very supportive on the edges. The Nectar even made our list as an affordable option for best mattresses for seniors because of its edge support, as well as pressure relief.
Memory foam mattresses usually excel at pressure relief, with their contouring cushion right where you need it. The hybrid DreamCloud capitalizes on this with two layers of foam and provides pressure relief for average-weight and heavyweight sleepers. Lightweight sleepers might not feel the full benefits since you likely won’t sink in enough.
The all-foam Nectar is just about perfect for side sleepers in the average-weight category. Your shoulders and hips will have the cushion you need for pressure relief. It even made our list of best mattresses for shoulder pain.
If you wake up with back pain, your mattress might not be supporting the healthy, natural “S” curve of your spine. A firm hybrid like the DreamCloud is just right, combining cushion with support. For heavyweight stomach sleepers, the DreamCloud made our list as one of the best mattresses for back pain.
Though similar to the DreamCloud in firmness level, the feel of the Nectar is not going to be ideal for those with pre-existing back pain. It shouldn’t cause new back pain though, as long as you’re a back sleeper under 230 lbs.
Memory foam has a tendency to break down and form body impressions as it ages, but you should get 7 to 10 years of normal use before this happens. If it happens before that, both mattresses have Lifetime warranties that cover permanent impressions over 1.5″.
You can purchase a DreamCloud mattress at any one of their 4,000 nationwide retail partner stores. They’re also available online on their website and will ship for free in the U.S. (with a small fee for Alaska and Hawaii). Either way, your purchase comes with a 365-night sleep trial period and a Lifetime warranty.
Nectar is an online-only company that also provides free shipping to the contiguous U.S., a 365-night sleep trial, and a Lifetime warranty. To put your mind to rest even further, read about how it made our list of best online mattresses.

It’s easy to see why the luxury DreamCloud is such a hit. Delivering superior support and cushion for almost every weight category and sleeping position, it’s a versatile mattress with excellent performance across the board. But if you love the memory foam feel of a hug before bed, you’ll save a couple hundred with the all-foam Nectar. And its performance is not too shabby when it comes to motion isolation and pressure relief, either.
There isn’t a huge cost difference between the DreamCloud and Nectar. It comes down to performance and personal preferences: coil vs all-foam. For the average sleeper, DreamCloud performs better for those who prefer sleeping on their back or front and Nectar is a good fit for back and side sleepers.
The DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress constructed of several layers of foam atop a steel innerspring coil base. The creates noteworthy edge support and durability. Normal wear should prevent noticeable sagging until you reach around the 7- to 10-year mark, which is a good time to replace old mattresses.
While both companies sell bed-in-a-box mattresses online, DreamCloud also has over 4000 retail partners in the U.S. The primary differences in these mattresses are price and construction. The luxury DreamCloud is a hybrid made of foam and coil layers, whereas the Nectar is an all-foam bed.
