Mattress Nerd testers took a look at the DreamCloud and Lull mattresses to give you the hands-on information you need to know when mattress shopping. When comparing these two, a lot of what sets them apart comes down to the differences in memory foam vs hybrid mattresses. To learn more about how the Nerds grade a mattress, read more about our mattress reviews.
The DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress, combining the best of both worlds—soft foam and stable innerspring coils. This medium-firm mattress impressed our testers in all performance categories. The all-foam Lull offers great value for back and stomach sleepers under 230 lbs and is an excellent choice for those who want a memory foam mattress at an affordable price.
DreamCloud is best for… | Lull is best for… |
Couples | Shoppers on a Budget |
Hot Sleepers | Lightweight to Average-weight Sleepers |
Back Sleepers | Sleepers Who Prefer All-Foam |
Our Mattress Nerd firmness scale ranges from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is like sleeping on a plank. While both the DreamCloud and Lull mattresses fall into the medium-firm range, their constructions differ so your experience and opinion will too, depending on your weight and favorite sleeping position.
For firmness, the DreamCloud scores 6.5/10 and the Lull a 7/10. At medium-firm, both of these mattresses are a good fit for lightweight and average-weight sleepers, especially if you love sleeping on your back, front, or a combination. Heavyweight sleepers will fare better with a firmer mattress, though the DreamCloud’s construction did score quite well for heavyweight back sleepers. We don’t recommend the all-foam Lull for those over 230 lbs.
The DreamCloud’s cashmere cover is so soft, you might be tempted to forgo sheets…but don’t. This hybrid mattress gives you the benefit of memory foam cushion and supportive coils. Our testers described it as sleeping “on” the mattress vs. the doughy feel of traditional all-foam beds.
The all-foam Lull has three layers of foam with each layer serving a different purpose. This combination creates a “floating” feel atop the supportive high-density foam base.
Sleeping position will make or break your opinion of a mattress. The medium-firmness of both the DreamCloud and Lull makes them especially great for back sleepers and stomach sleepers weighing less than 230 lbs. In addition, the coil support layer of the DreamCloud meets the needs of heavyweight back sleepers.
Side sleepers will prefer a softer mattress than the DreamCloud or Lull because you need cushion and pressure relief for your hips and shoulders. And heavyweight stomach sleepers need a firmer mattress to keep their hips elevated.
DreamCloud Performance By Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 2 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3.5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 2 | 4 |
Lull Performance By Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 4 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Average-weight back and stomach sleepers might find the DreamCloud mattress to be the better buy. Even if you switch to your side for a little each night, it’s still likely to be a good fit.
The Lull’s firmness level will keep your hips elevated for a healthy lower back, as long as you are a lightweight or average-weight back or stomach sleeper. Side sleepers might prefer a softer mattress for pressure relief in the hips and shoulders, though.
Heavyweight sleepers who prefer their stomach for sleep will need a firmer mattress than the DreamCloud or Lull—otherwise, your hips might sink, causing lower back pain. However, the DreamCloud’s support coils do a good job for sleepers on your back, side, or a combination. We don’t recommend the Lull for those in this weight category.
The DreamCloud received perfect marks for lightweight sleepers who prefer back, stomach, or a combination sleeping. Side sleepers will not sink in enough to experience pressure relief.
The Lull is a great fit for lightweight back sleepers and does an average job of keeping your hips elevated if you sleep on your stomach. Our testers felt it was still too firm for side sleepers who often prefer more cushion for their hips and shoulders.

The DreamCloud’s cover is made of quilted cashmere and foam and is just as soft as it sounds. The Lull’s cover, made from a polyester/rayon blend, is a soft, thin material that is breathable.
The comfort layers of both mattresses address the problem of temperature regulation with gel-infused memory foam. And the transition layers are responsive, so both of these mattresses feel very different from the doughy “hug” of traditional memory foam.
The DreamCloud’s coil layer has foam above and below it. This serves as a transition so you don’t sink into the coils, while also increasing durability. The all-foam Lull has a high-density foam layer at its base for stability and durability.

While both mattresses have gel-infused memory foam to draw body heat away, the DreamCloud’s base coil layer really does the job. The all-foam Lull just isn’t as cooling. But if you often wake up covered in sweat, check out our list of best cooling mattresses. DreamCloud’s Premier mattress made the list.
The DreamCloud has several layers of foam before you get to the coil base layer, so this mattress does an above-average job at isolating motion. The Lull also does well at keeping movement contained at its origin. This is good news if you sleep with a partner, pet, or child and don’t want to wake up every time they move around.
Edge support creates a firm edge that creates more usable sleeping space. If you need to get up and down slowly or like to tie your shoes while sitting on the edge, this is an important performance metric. Our testers noted that both mattresses felt sturdy when lying or sitting on the edge.
Those weighing more than 130 lbs will feel the cushion of the DreamCloud’s memory foam at your points of contact with the mattress. Lightweight sleepers might not experience the same relief though if you don’t sink far enough in.
Like most all-foam mattresses, the Lull offers a good amount of pressure relief, but it still might be too firm for side sleepers’ hips and shoulders.
If you wake up with back pain, it could be that your mattress isn’t supporting the healthy “S” curve of your spine. The DreamCloud won’t disappoint if you’re a back sleeper, no matter your weight. And it even made our list of best mattresses for seniors.
The Lull’s three layers of foam also help with back pain, providing good spinal alignment for most back and stomach sleepers. It’s still too firm for side sleepers whose hips and shoulders need more cushion.
The 7-year mark is the recommended time to replace your mattress, and you should have no problems with the DreamCloud and Lull lasting you to that point.
It’s free to have your DreamCloud shipped within the U.S. (with only a small fee for Alaska and Hawaii). DreamCloud offers a 365-night sleep trial period and stands behind its workmanship with a Lifetime Warranty for normal wear, defined as permanent body impressions over 1.5”.
Lull ships free to the contiguous U.S., as well. They also offer a 365-night sleep trial, which is plenty of time to try it out. And the Lifetime warranty covers permanent body impressions over 1.5″, which is pretty standard for memory foam mattresses.

And it’s more versatile for a combination of sleeping positions and body weights. The Lull is a great value for the average-weight sleeper who prefers back, stomach, or a combination sleeping.
The DreamCloud is made from memory foam and coils. The steel coils will outlast the foam, which will eventually begin to break down, but if lasting impressions are greater than 1.5″ form, the Lifetime Warranty has you covered. You should be able to enjoy your luxury mattress for about a decade.
