The hybrid DreamCloud and Casper Hybrid mattresses have quite a few similarities. How they perform comes down to your weight and preferred sleeping position, two factors that affect the feel from person to person. To learn more about how we put each mattress to the test, read about the methodology for our mattress reviews.
The DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress which means it has foam and innerspring coils. This medium-firm mattress scores above average on all of our performance categories, making it an all-around good fit for most sleepers. The Casper Hybrid is also composed of foam and coils, with soft foam at the head and foot of the mattress and firmer foam in the lumbar area. This makes it an excellent choice for combination sleepers weighing less than 230 lbs, but it does come at a higher price point.
DreamCloud is best for… | Casper is best for… |
---|---|
Back Sleepers | Lightweight and Average-weight Sleepers |
Hot Sleepers | People With Back Pain |
Senior Sleepers | Combination Sleepers (<230 lbs) |
Despite having different materials, the feel of the DreamCloud and Casper Hybrid’s comfort layers are pretty similar. The performance differs once you sink down into the support layers.
At Mattress Nerd, we use a firmness scale that ranges from 1–10, where 1 is the softest. Both of these mattresses would be considered medium-firm, but the DreamCloud scores 6.5/10 while the Casper is a 5.5/10. This difference won’t be as noticeable for average-weight sleepers, but lightweight side sleepers (<130 lbs) won’t sink in enough to find pressure relief on the DreamCloud. The Casper mattress, on the other hand, will be too soft for heavyweight sleepers (>230 lbs).
The DreamCloud’s cashmere cover is as soft as a cloud, and looks like one, too. You’ll feel first cushioned by the soft foam, then supported by the support coils. The Casper’s responsive polyfoam layer gives the sleeper contouring at pressure points and then delivers support with the stronger foam in the lumbar area. Both models keep you sleeping “on” versus “in” the mattress.
Back sleepers of any weight and stomach sleepers weighing less than 230 lbs will benefit from the DreamCloud’s superior (5/5) rating for these positions. The mattress helps keep the spine’s natural “S” curve while also supporting the hips for stomach sleepers, as long as you’re less than 230 lbs. It didn’t perform quite as well for side sleepers, especially if you’re lightweight.
In contrast, the Casper Hybrid’s top cushion and firmer lumbar support foam are a good fit for all sleeping positions, as long as you weigh less than 230 lbs. That’s why this versatile mattress is great for combination sleepers, those who change sleeping positions in the night.

---|---|---|---|
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 2 |

Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 2 | 4 |
Casper Hybrid Performance By Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 3 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 3 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
If you’re an average-weight back or stomach sleeper, the DreamCloud mattress should work well for you. It can also help support side sleepers in this category. Average-weight sleepers will be most pleased with the Casper Hybrid’s construction if you sleep on your back, side, or a combination throughout the night. Stomach sleepers might prefer a firmer mattress that will keep your hips better elevated, though.
If you are a heavyweight sleeper who prefers to sleep on your stomach, neither of these mattresses is firm enough to keep your hips elevated and may cause lower back pain. In fact, the Casper Hybrid doesn’t have the firmesss to support any type of sleeper in this weight category. The DreamCloud, however, holds up quite well if you’re a back, side, or combination sleeper.
If you’re a lightweight back or stomach sleeper, the DreamCloud will deliver a supportive yet contouring sleep surface. For side sleepers, though, you need a softer mattress than the DreamCloud. It doesn’t have enough sink in the foam layer to allow your hips and shoulders for pressure relief.
The Casper Hybrid is a great choice for lightweight sleepers. You’ll find a nice balance of cushion and support in every sleeping position.
The DreamCloud measures 14″ in height, with multiple layers of foam above coils. Casper Hybrid’s mattress is 11” thick with a special memory foam that targets the lumbar region.

Close your eyes and remember how that expensive cashmere sweater felt in the store. Soft and dream-like. The DreamCloud cover is that, blended with foam. Casper’s cover feels stretchy and cool. It also boasts a unique material that contains up to 57 recycled bottles.
The comfort layers and coils of both mattresses account for cooling: the gel-infused foam of the DreamCloud draws heat away and the perforated polyfoam of the Casper Hybrid increases airflow. Both of these materials also provide a slight bounce, different from the doughy feel of traditional memory foam.
The DreamCloud’s coils sit between foam layers. This helps keep you from sinking into the coils, and may boost durability. The Casper Hybrid mattress has zoned memory foam atop coils and a high-density base foam. The zoned memory foam is softer along the top and bottom thirds of the mattress, with firmer foam in the lumbar area.

DreamCloud’s comfort layer has gel-infused foam which is meant to draw heat away from your body. Its base coil layer also creates airflow. These two features combined do a slightly better job than the Casper Hybrid mattress, which has its own Airscape polyfoam that is perforated for cooling. But if you often wake up covered in sweat, check out our list of best cooling mattresses. DreamCloud’s Premier mattress made the list.
The DreamCloud has several layers of foam before you get to the coil base layer, so this mattress does an above-average job at isolating motion. This is good news if you sleep with a partner, pet, or child and don’t want to wake up every time they move around. The Casper Hybrid performs really well in this category, so both of these mattresses help you have an undisturbed night of rest.
Who should look for a bed with good edge support?
Our testers felt reasonably supported on the edge of both of these mattresses. And the DreamCloud even made our list of best mattresses for seniors.
The DreamCloud is a good choice for pressure relief for average-weight and heavyweight sleepers. For lightweight sleepers, however, the mattress may not provide enough sink to bring the same pressure relief benefits.
In contrast, those weighing over 230 lbs probably won’t find the support they need from the Casper Hybrid. But it excels at pressure relief for lightweight and average-weight sleepers because of the firmer memory foam found along the body’s lumbar region and softer foam at the shoulders and foot of the bed.
If a mattress doesn’t support the natural “S” curve of your spine, it may worsen back pain. The DreamCloud made it onto our list of the best mattresses for back pain for stomach sleepers that weigh less than 230 lbs. It can also support a healthy spine alignment for back sleepers of all body types. The Casper Hybrid’s extra lumbar support also performs well for most sleepers weighing less than 230 lbs. But if you suffer from chronic joint pain, consider one of our best mattresses for arthritis.
The DreamCloud and Casper Hybrid’s foam and coil constructions might last a little longer than an all-foam matttress would. Both mattresses should easily make it to the 7-year mark which is the recommended age to replace your mattress.

For those in the lightweight to average-weight category (<230 lbs), the Casper Hybrid model is a versatile, more expensive option than the DreamCloud. With both of these mattresses, you’ll find excellent cushion and support in all sleeping positions—helpful for couples or combination sleepers.
The DreamCloud is a medium-firm mattress. It has a true hybrid feel, with the memory foam in the comfort layer cushioning your body while the coil base layer supports the natural "S" curve of your spine. The DreamCloud is likely too firm for side sleepers.
Your weight and preferred sleeping position affect the feel of a mattress. The less expensive DreamCloud provides a cool night of sleep for back sleepers of any size and stomach sleepers (<230 lbs). For lightweight and average-weight sleepers, the Casper Hybrid is more versatile, performing well in any sleeping position.
Casper offers several models including hybrid and all-foam options. The cooling features and zoned lumbar support make this is a good value and a versatile option for most sleepers. If you're not happy with your purchase, every mattress comes with a risk-free sleep trial.
