Firmness and feel can be a deal-breaker when choosing the right mattress. Here, we’ll detail the specific firmness and feel differences between the Casper and the Lull.
The Casper Original is a medium-firm mattress that does an excellent job at delivering a balanced sleep experience that suits every sleeping position. The Lull mattress is a medium-firm mattress that skews slightly to the firmer side of the medium. It relieves pressure and keeps the spine aligned for most average sleepers and even for heavier back sleepers. If the Lull is not supportive enough for you, see the best mattress for heavy people.
The Casper Original’s comfort layer is a plush and responsive polyfoam that brings immediate comfort and light contouring that works well for back, stomach, and side sleepers. The Lull mattress will be enjoyed by back sleepers thanks to the memory foam that hugs your body.
Lightweight and average-weight people would find ergonomic support for the lower spine and the shoulders when sleeping on the Casper mattress. While the Lull mattress begins with a layer of contouring memory foam along the top of the bed. This memory foam slowly molds to your body’s curves, evenly distributing weight for a healthy spinal posture and some nice pressure relief.
Casper Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 2 |
Lull Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 4 |
Average-weight back sleepers fare well on the Lull—it evenly distributes the weight across the body and supports the lower back to keep the spine aligned. To add, average-weight side sleepers on the Lull will find a good balance of softness and support, and provide excellent pressure relief, so you can wake feeling rested and refreshed instead of sore and tight. The Casper mattress provides excellent comfort for average-weight back sleepers and side sleepers. It keeps the hips and neck in line while also protecting pressure points such as the shoulders, hips, and lower parts of the back.
Heavyweight stomach sleepers and side sleepers might not get the proper spine alignment and comfortable pressure relief they need on the Casper mattress. If you are a heavyweight sleeper and weigh over 250 lbs, the Lull isn’t the best choice—you may want to look for a thicker mattress (12″ or more), so you can get the proper support you need.
Lightweight back sleepers can look forward to the Casper mattress, especially when you’re looking for one that fills in the small of your back. Combination sleepers who move around often throughout the night are a good fit for the Casper mattress. On the other hand, lightweight stomach sleepers are suitable for the Lull.
Both the Original Casper and the Lull mattresses are made from three layers of foam but the Lull is “10” while the Casper is thicker with “11”.

The Casper Original mattress is an all-foam bed that pairs plush polyfoam with Zoned Support memory foam for excellent pressure relief and body alignment. The Casper Original provides comfort for back, stomach, side and combination sleepers who weigh less than 230 lbs, and its motion isolation makes it good for couples.
Lull offers a well-rounded mattress with a thoughtful design that addresses the typical issues with traditional mattresses. Expect temperature regulation, advanced support, good motion isolation, and lasting durability.
Neither the Casper nor the Lull mattress is our top pick for hot sleepers. Both incorporate some cooling along the sleeping surface, using perforated foam in the Casper and cooling gel in the Lull. But their all-foam constructions mean greater body heat retention.
Because the Casper and Lull are both all-foam beds with motion-dampening memory foam layers, they each excel at motion isolation. Couples and people who sleep with a pet or child are likely to enjoy few sleep disturbances on either mattress.
Both the Casper and Lull mattresses have pretty comfortable edges, so you can lie along them without worrying you might fall off. Our only word of caution is that heavier people may not find the edges sturdy enough for sitting.
The Casper has a soft polyfoam top layer that provides a bit more cushion than the Lull. And with softer foam at the shoulders—the most problematic pressure point for side sleepers—the Casper delivers superb pressure relief for side sleepers of every body weight. The Lull’s surface has a medium-firm memory foam that takes some time to respond to pressure.
The Casper is one of the best beds for lightweight and average-weight people with back pain. With a soft comfort layer that cushions the body and a Zoned Support transition layer, the Casper is designed to keep the spine properly supported in every sleeping position. The Lull provides superior spinal support for most stomach sleepers thanks to a firmer surface. By keeping the hips aligned with the shoulders, the Lull minimizes the potential for lower back pain—although heavyweight stomach sleepers should consider a mattress designed for bigger bodies.
The Casper’s durable foam base and stronger memory foam along the middle of the mattress will likely last lightweight and average-weight people around seven to ten years with plenty of support for healthy spinal alignment in every sleeping position. The Lull may better resist the gradual softening that happens with foams because it has a firmer transition layer.

The Lull is a classic memory foam mattress with contouring support that works well for couples and back sleepers. The Casper’s zoned support means better cushioning for the average side sleepers. These mattresses are priced similarly, but you’ll save on the Casper.
All-foam mattresses will have a smell when you unbox them. This is from the materials used to create the foams that are in the mattresses. The scent is not harmful and should be gone within a few days.
Nope! You don’t have to worry about that with the Lull as it isn’t designed to be flipped. If you sleep with a partner and there is a significant difference in weight between the two of you, then Lull recommends rotating the mattress every few months.
Casper mattresses are unlikely to sag in the first seven to ten years of ownership so long as they are set atop a supportive base. Casper covers body indentations of greater than 1u201d during the 10-year warranty, so you’re covered in the case of a deep impression.
