Deciding between the all-foam Casper Original or the Casper Hybrid, read on to learn more about how these beds compare.
While the Casper Original’s foam design is best for lighter sleepers and couples wanting more motion isolation, the Casper Hybrid offers better temperature control for hot sleepers and edge support for seniors.

We’ve hit all the basics of the Casper Original and Casper Hybrid, so let’s go into more detail about their firmness and feel.
Here in the Nerd Lab, we test firmness on a scale of 1–10, where a “1” firmness is softer than air and a “10” firmness is harder than your floor. With this handy scale in mind, the Casper Original comes in at a 6/10 firmness, and the Casper Hybrid is at a slightly softer 5.5/10.
Essentially, both of these firmness levels hover around a medium firmness, but the Casper Hybrid’s extra softness is great for lightweight and average-weight sleepers. However, neither mattress is really firm enough for heavyweight sleepers.
First off, the Casper Original has a unique feel in that it’s one of the most responsive (but also soft) foam mattresses out there. Lying on this bed will feel like the typical contouring softness of foam without the “sinking”.
Next, the Casper Hybrid has a similar feel and pressure relief, although with more lower back support for stomach sleepers and back sleepers.
The all-foam Casper Original is generally best for lightweight sleepers, while the Casper Hybrid is more comfortable for average-weight sleepers. Across different sleeper types, both beds perform similarly for back, stomach, and side sleepers overall.
Casper Original Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 2 |
Casper Hybrid Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 3 |
Average-weight back sleepers will get similar support and comfort from either bed, while stomach sleepers will prefer the Casper Hybrid much more thanks to more supportive hybrid design. For side sleepers, both mattresses again perform similarly, but the Casper Original takes the lead due to its more contouring foam design.
Neither the Casper or the Casper Hybrid are a great fit for heavyweight sleepers, simply because both of these mattresses are too soft. However, when comparing them, the Casper Hybrid offers a little more support for heavier side sleepers, while heavyweight stomach sleepers and back sleepers will get a similar experience regardless of which Casper mattress they choose.
For lightweight sleepers, the Original Casper generally outperforms the Casper Hybrid. For back sleepers and stomach, the foam Casper offers more pressure relief. Next, for side sleepers, the Casper Original has a more contouring feel which also reduces pressure on the shoulders and hips.
In terms of construction, the Casper Original features an all-foam design, while the Casper Hybrid has a support layer of pocketed coils. Also, both of these beds feature similar layers of supportive and breathable foam, and both Casper mattresses are 11” tall.

On both the Casper Original and Casper Hybrid, the top layer of these mattresses is a stretchy and breathable fabric mattress that’s designed to have a cozy feel without trapping heat throughout the night.
Next up, the Casper Original and Hybrid both feature a bouncy and cooling layer of perforated memory foam. This polyfoam works by allowing airflow through the top layers of the bed in addition to providing a plush, but responsive feel.
For support layers, both mattresses also have supportive and soft zoned memory foam, but the Casper Original has more thickness here, specifically. On the other hand, the Casper Hybrid has a set of pocketed coils that also provide a responsive and lifted feel. Lastly, both beds have a solid layer of dense polyfoam at the bottom that supports that whole bed and adds extra firmness.

Generally, hybrid beds offer better cooling since they allow for more airflow through their pocketed coils. In this comparison, the same is true for the Casper Hybrid and the all-foam Original. So, if you struggle with overheating, the Hybrid is the better Casper for you.
If your partner’s tossing and turning keeps you up, your bed might have poor motion transfer. Between these two Casper beds, the all-foam Original is better at absorbing and muffling any unwanted movement.
Edge support is how well your bed can support weight on its perimeter, meaning a bed with solid edge support will let you lie or sit on its edges without warping. Since the Casper Hybrid contains a layer of pocketed steel coils, this mattress is a little more durable and solid. Check out our page for more edge support information.
Although the Casper Hybrid is the softer of the two beds, the Casper Original’s foam design is great at absorbing any pressure points, especially for lightweight sleepers. That said, average-sleepers will still find the Casper Hybrid more comfortable.
The best mattress for pain relief depends on your sleeping position and body type. If you’re a back sleeper or stomach sleeper, the Casper Hybrid may work better if you’re an average-weight sleeper, while the Original is best for lighter sleepers. For side sleepers, the Casper Original is also better for average-weight sleepers.
Both Casper beds are made from durable and lasting foam materials, but, generally, hybrid beds tend to last a little bit longer due to their support layer of steel coils. Nonetheless, you can expect either Casper bed to last you longer than the average mattress lifespan of about seven years.
Since both the Casper Original and Casper Hybrid are made by the same company, you can expect the same policies with either bed.
First off, Casper offers free shipping anywhere in the continental United States and will ship directly to your door as a bed-in-a-box. After that, you can also request a delivery team to set up your Casper mattress and frame for you.
Once you’ve let your Casper bed fully inflate, you can rest easy with a 100-night trial period, during which you can request for Casper to come collect your bed and receive a full refund. Also, the company will try to donate your bed to charity if you don’t want to keep it.
But, if you do plan on keeping your Casper mattress, you’ll also be entitled to a 10-year limited warranty that covers manufacturer or product defects and indentations of over 1” in the mattress. However, this warranty does not cover misuse of the bed.

The Original Casper mattress offers great motion isolation and cushioning for lightweight sleepers, while the Casper Hybrid has better temperature regulation and offers more support for average-weight sleepers. That said, both Casper beds have a similar medium firmness and both are highly responsive as well.
The best Casper bed for you depends on a variety of factors, but the Casper Original is best for budget shoppers, lightweight sleepers, and foam mattress fans, while the Casper Hybrid is a better choice for hot sleepers and anyone who prefers having extra edge support.
Casper recommends you let your bed expand from 24 hours to three days. This is necessary to give the memory foam time to expand. However, even after your bed has fully expanded, you still may need up to 30 days for your body to fully adjust to the bed.
Yes. If you sleep alone (and also tend to sleep toward one side of the bed every night), Casper recommends that you rotate your bed every three to six months. Also, if you share a bed, but have a different weight than your partner, you should also rotate it. Looking for more info? Check out our page on whether it’s time for you to flip your mattress.
