Brooklyn Bedding and Saatva are two of the most well-known online mattress brands around. In this review, we take a look at the two brand’s flagship hybrid mattresses and break down their features, pros, and cons so you can decide which one is right for your sleeping position and preferences.
Brooklyn Signature Hybrid is best for… | Saatva is best for… |
Budget shoppers | Luxury shoppers |
Sleepers that prefer a balanced feel | Hot sleepers |
Side sleepers and those with joint pain | Sleepers who suffer from back pain |
Each of these hybrid mattresses has a unique feel that makes it better suited to different types of sleepers.
Both of these mattresses are offered in three similar firmness level options. The Brooklyn Signature Hybrid comes in soft, medium, and firm, and the Saatva is available in plush soft, luxury firm, and firm. Although mattress firmness is subjective to each individual, if you have a lighter body weight, beds will typically feel more firm and a bed will feel softer to those with a heavier body weight.
When you first lay down on the Brooklyn Signature mattress, you’ll first feel the cushioning comfort of the memory foam balanced by the firm support underneath. The Saatva, however, feels less plush and more firmly supportive, keeping you lifted so you feel as if you are floating on top of the bed.
Both mattresses are responsive yet quiet and would work well for back or combination sleepers. Side sleepers, however, will appreciate the Brooklyn Signature mattress while stomach sleepers will likely get a better night’s rest on the Saatva.
Brooklyn Signature Hybrid Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 2 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 4 |
Saatva Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 4 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Average-weight back and stomach sleepers could get the support they need on the firm Brooklyn Signature Hybrid or the firm Saatva mattress, while side sleepers could opt for the soft or medium/luxury-firm options of either bed. Both beds are well suited for average-weight sleepers in all sleeping positions, so combination sleepers will also be comfortable on either option.
If you’re a heavyweight back or stomach sleeper, the “firm” version of the Signature Hybrid or the Saatva could work for you. The Saatva is probably a better bet if you’re a stomach sleeper, however, because the second row of innerspring coils will help keep your spine in a neutral position throughout the night.
Heavyweight side sleepers will likely be comfortable on the medium version of the Signature Hybrid or the Saatva mattress. Combination sleepers will be also comfortable on either the medium or firm version, depending on their primary sleeping position.
Lightweight back sleepers will likely get the support they need on the medium version of the Brooklyn Signature Hybrid or the luxury-firm Saatva mattress. Lightweight side sleepers will be more comfortable on the Brooklyn Signature since it offers deeper pressure relief, and they should also opt for the medium model.
Lightweight stomach sleepers, however, should choose the more supportive Saatva to avoid sinkage that can cause lower back pain. Since both beds are bouncy and responsive, combination sleepers will be happy on either mattress.
These hybrid beds have similar constructions, but the Brooklyn Signature Hybrid is 11” tall while the Saatva can be 11.5” or 14.5” tall, depending on which option you choose.
Brooklyn Signature Hybrid Mattress Materials | Saatva Mattress Materials |
Quilted comfort foam | Organic cotton cover |
Two layers of memory foam | Euro-style pillow topper |
Ascension Coils | 14.5-Gauge Recycled Steel Coils |
Flex Base | 13-Gauge Coil Base Layer |
The Brooklyn Signature mattress cover is quilted with a thin layer of comfort foam to provide a little extra cushioning. The Saatva mattress cover is made of organic cotton that’s designed to stay cool throughout the night.
The Brooklyn Signature Hybrid has two foam comfort layers. The first layer is called TitanFlex foam which has a soft feel and the responsiveness of latex. The second layer of foam is called VariFlex foam (formerly Energex foam), which acts as a transition into the coil support system below.
The Saatva features a 3” euro pillow top that feels plush and decadent when you first lie down on the mattress. The pillow topper is supported by an active wire frame and an extra layer of memory foam under the center third of the mattress to improve lumbar support and prevent you from sinking uncomfortably far into the bed.
A base layer of support polyfoam adds stability and reduces sagging to the bottom of the Brooklyn Signature Hybrid mattress.
The Saatva features three support layers, including a dual layer coil system. The top layer is micro-coils that provide nuanced motion isolation and make moving around on the mattress a lot easier. The second layer of coils is much firmer. It’s the support system for the whole mattress. Finally, high-density foam frames the entire mattress and improves edge support.

Temperature regulation is really important for a comfortable night’s sleep. The Saatva and Brooklyn Signature naturally sleep fairly cool because the coil base layers create lots of space for airflow. Brooklyn Bedding‘s TitanFlex foam is even infused with cooling gel.
We don’t think you’ll overheat on either of these beds, making them both great mattresses for hot sleepers.
Motion transfer measures how well a mattress muffles movements on the mattress surface before they have the chance to spread. A mattress that doesn’t limit motion transfer will cause you to feel more of your sleeping partner‘s movements. Generally, memory foam reduces motion transfer the best, while coils have a natural springiness that can amplify motion transfer.
When we reviewed the Brooklyn Signature and Saatva mattresses, we noted that the Signature did a better job of minimizing motion transfer. With that said, unless you have a restless sleeping partner, we don’t think you’ll experience too many disruptions on either bed. For more options, check out the best mattresses for couples.
Saatva and Brooklyn Bedding both reinforce the edges of their flagship mattresses, which means they frame the sides of the bed with extra supportive materials to add extra stability. This is helpful if you like to sit on the edge of your bed when getting ready in the morning, or if you need a sturdy surface to get in and out of bed.
To our surprise, the Signature did not provide much edge support. We felt as though we might slide off the side of the bed if we sat too close. On the other hand, the Saatva provided excellent edge support. It’s a better choice for those who want to use their entire mattress surface.
If you are a side sleeper, then pressure relief is extra important for you. Side sleepers put a lot of stress on their shoulders and hips, so they need a mattress that contours around their pressure points. Hybrid and innerspring mattresses generally provide less pressure relief because coils are not as easily compressed as foam. Mattresses with a coil layer are best for stomach and back sleepers, though both mattresses offer a soft firmness option that may provide enough pressure relief for side sleepers.
A bed that helps keep your back in a healthy posture throughout the night may help relieve pain. When your spine is pushed out of alignment by your mattress or pillow, you might notice neck or back pain in the morning.
Both of these mattresses do a great job of supporting a healthy, neutral spine alignment, but we think the extra lumbar support in the Saatva gives it a slight edge over the Brooklyn Signature.
