In this mattress comparison, we help you decide between a hybrid mattress and an all-foam mattress—the Brooklyn Bedding and the Puffy! Read to find out which works better for you. Make sure to check out what others are saying in our testing methodology.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress is topped with two layers of cooling foam and supported by bouncy coils. The Puffy mattress has an all-foam construction that includes soft memory foam, buoyant transition foam, and supportive base foam.
Brooklyn Bedding is best for… | Puffy is best for… |
Combination sleepers | Side sleepers |
Back sleepers | hose with joint pain |
Couples | Lightweight and average-weight sleepers |
Read on to know the difference between the Brooklyn Bedding’s and Puffy’s firmness and feel.
The Brooklyn Signature is available in three firmness options: soft, medium, and firm. The Puffy is available only in medium-firm. We actually think the Puffy and medium firmness Brooklyn Signature have the same firmness level: medium-firm. This provides a crowd-pleasing blend of comfort and support.
The Brooklyn Signature Hybrid has a balanced feel; in other words, it’s cushioning at first contact, but transitions into a more supportive “on the mattress” feel. The Puffy has a soft and supportive feel rather than feeling “stuck” in the mattress, it also has a balanced yet responsive foam feel, meaning it’s a good choice for combination sleepers who move around at night.
The Brooklyn Bedding has great motion isolation so you will not feel your partner tossing and turning at night, it is ideal for average weight back sleepers. The Puffy is a relatively simple all-foam mattress with gel-infused comfort layers. It’s a better choice for side sleepers and couples concerned with motion transfer.
Brooklyn Bedding Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 1 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 5 | 3 | 3 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 4 | 2 | 4 |
Puffy Performance By Body Type & Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 4 | 3 | 5 |
Average-weight (130–230 lbs): | 3 | 3 | 4 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 2 | 2 | 3 |
Average-weight back sleepers will likely get the support they need on the “medium” version of the Brooklyn Signature Hybrid. The medium option is a comfortable blend of soft, yet supportive, while the firm provides more sturdy support, making it a great mattress for back sleepers. Average-weight side sleepers will find the medium-firm Puffy to provide pressure relief and a gentle hug around the hips and shoulders. The upper layers of the Puffy will cradle pressure points and conform around the natural curves of the body.
Heavyweight stomach sleepers probably won’t find the support they need in the medium Brooklyn Signature Hybrid mattress, but they might find proper support in the firm version of the bed. Additionally, heavyweight combination sleepers will likely be able to change positions easily on the medium version of the Brooklyn Signature Hybrid mattress. If you’re a heavyweight stomach sleeper, back sleeper, or combination sleeper, the Puffy mattress will likely not be firm enough and cannot provide enough support.
Lightweight stomach sleepers may find proper support in the medium version of the Brooklyn Signature Hybrid, but the firm would likely be better. If you’re a lightweight side sleeper, the Puffy should be a good fit for you thanks to the foam layers that provide pressure relief and a gentle hug around their hips and shoulders.
The Brooklyn Signature mattress cover is quilted with a thin layer of memory foam that adds extra plushness when you first lie down, it measures 11”. While the Puffy is an all-foam mattress with three layers dedicated to providing superior pressure relief and a “cloud-like” sleeping experience with a thickness of 10”.
Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Materials | Puffy Mattress Materials |
Premium Quilted Cover | Cooling Cloud foam |
TitanFlex Comfort Foam | Climate Comfort foam |
VariFlex Transition Foam | Climate Comfort foam |
Ascension Coils & Flex Base | |
11” | 10” |
The Brooklyn Signature Hybrid’s quilted, memory foam cover adds an element of cushion as soon as you lie down on the mattress. The Puffy’s cover consists of standard polyester that has some stretch across the surface, a thinner cover that feels cool to the touch.
The top layer of the mattress is Brooklyn Bedding’s proprietary TitanFlex Comfort foam, which helps the mattress contour to your body while keeping your spine aligned. The top layer of the Puffy is made of two inches of Cooling Cloud foam with gel infusions that are meant to pull heat away from your body and promote airflow, so you don’t get too hot.
In the Brooklyn Bedding, another layer of TitanFlex foam acts as a transition layer between your body and the support coils to cushion your body weight and adapts to your position every time you shift in bed. The Puffy is designed with six inches of Firm Core foam support layer, which adds structure and durability to the mattress.

The Signature Hybrid mattress comes in three firmness options and is made with a slew of proprietary materials. Brooklyn Bedding knows their mattresses.
The Original Puffy is a three-layer foam mattress made with cooling gel-infused memory foam and motion-isolating base foams. It has a medium-firm feel that blends contouring support with cushioning comfort.
We think the Brooklyn Signature stays cooler than the Puffy, but the Puffy is still pretty temperature-neutral for a memory foam mattress.
It’s no surprise that the Puffy isolates motion better than the Brooklyn Signature. The all-foam construction of the Puffy dampens movement before it has the chance to spread, whereas the springiness of the coils in the Brooklyn Signature creates a bit more bounce-back.
The Brooklyn Signature has reinforced edges, but we weren’t too impressed with the support level. We didn’t feel like we’d slide off the mattress, but there was quite a bit of sinkage when we sat on the sides of the bed.
That was also the case with the Puffy, though we noticed even more compression. Overall, if edge support is your deciding factor, go with the Brooklyn Signature, but don’t expect excellent edge support on either mattress.
The Brooklyn Signature and Puffy both provide pressure relief, but the Puffy outperforms the Brooklyn Signature in this category, at least with regard to the medium and firm Brooklyn Signature options. The Puffy is our pick for side sleepers, though the soft version of the Brooklyn Signature is a worthwhile option, too.
If you struggle with back pain and sleep on your back—as opposed to your side or stomach—the Brooklyn Signature Hybrid should help you remain in proper spinal alignment (and thus reduce pain). The Puffy mattress is a lot like sleeping on a cloud; however, some sleepers may want more firmness and less fluffiness. For better options, see the best mattresses for back pain.
Both of these beds are high-quality and backed by industry-standard warranties, so they should last between six to ten years with normal use.
Brooklyn Bedding mattresses provide free shipping for orders in the contiguous USA (deliveries to Alaska and Hawaii cost $125, and shipments to Canada cost $250). The 120-night sleep trial starts on the day your mattress is delivered, so you can test out your new mattress in the comfort of your home. Returns are free; but if you keep your mattress, it’s protected by a 10-year warranty.
Puffy mattresses are made in the USA and shipped for free within one to three business days (extra fees apply to Alaska and Hawaii deliveries). You get a 101-night in-home trial period, free returns, and a Lifetime warranty. The warranty entitles you to a free replacement mattress if yours develops indentations over 1.5” and manufacturing defects of the cover (i.e. a broken zipper or unraveled seams).

We don’t think one of these mattresses is better than the other, but we can tell you which is the best mattress for your specific sleep needs. The Brooklyn Signature is our pick for combination sleepers, hot sleepers, and those who want multiple firmness options. The Puffy is better for those with joint pain, memory foam lovers, and those who prioritize pressure relief.
If you’re still undecided, keep in mind that the pricing for these beds is really similar, and both come with generous trial periods typical of the bed-in-a-box market. Choose the one that aligns with your top sleep needs, and give it a try!
The Puffy is a single-sided mattress, so it doesn’t need to be flipped top-to-bottom. However, to ensure your mattress wears evenly, rotate it head-to-foot once a month for the first few months and then once every season (every three or four months) for the rest of the mattress’s lifespan.
Brooklyn Bedding suggests you unbox your mattress no later than three weeks after the date of delivery. As a general rule, it’s best to unbox your new mattress quickly after it arrives at your doorstep to minimize the risk of off-gassing smells and mattress impressions.
This bed-in-a-box mattress can support up to 900 lbs. of body weight for the Queen, King, and Cal king sizes. A full-size Brooklyn Signature mattress can hold 700 lbs., and a Twin and Twin XL can support up to 600 lbs. of body weight.
