We consider the Puffy and Casper mattresses both to be medium-firm, or about 6/10 on the firmness scale. They each have a soft top layer and a firmer second layer, so the mattresses feel soft at first contact, but get firmer the further down you sink.

What Do the Puffy & Casper Mattresses Feel Like?

It is easy to move around in the Puffy, making it a good choice for combination sleepers who move around at night. To add, its three-layer foam construction gives you a soft and supportive feel rather than feeling “stuck.” On the other hand, the Casper’s comfort layer is a plush and responsive polyfoam that brings immediate comfort and light contouring that works well for back, stomach, and side sleepers.

What’s It Like to Sleep On the Puffy & Casper Mattresses?

The Puffy mattress is an excellent choice for side sleepers who want pressure relief and a gentle hug around the hips and shoulders. Meanwhile, lightweight and average-weight people are well supported on the Casper no matter their sleeping position, however, heavier folks are not as good of a fit.

Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)

Average-weight back sleepers and side sleepers will find the Casper a suitable choice thanks to its medium-firm mattress and optimal support that aligns the neck and spine. Similarly, the Puffy provides great pressure relief for average-weight side sleepers, especially those who prefer a feel of a gentle hug around the hips and shoulders.

Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)

Heavyweight stomach sleepers may experience uncomfortable sinkage in the Casper mattress. We also do not find the Puffy mattress to be supportive enough for heavyweight side sleepers and back sleepers.

Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)

Lightweight side sleepers should get the lower back support they need on the Puffy mattress—the upper layers of the Puffy will cradle pressure points and conform around the natural curves of the body. Additionally, the Casper mattress should provide great comfort no matter the sleeping position, making them a great choice for lightweight combination sleepers.

The Casper mattress is an all-foam bed that pairs plush polyfoam with Zoned Support memory foam for excellent pressure relief and body alignment. The Casper provides comfort for back, stomach, side, and combination sleepers who weigh less than 230 lbs, and its motion isolation makes it good for couples.

Temperature

Both mattresses feature elements that bring the foam to a more neutral temperature. Specifically, Puffy’s comfort layer is infused with gel, and the Casper top layer is perforated with tiny channels that improve airflow.

Motion Transfer

All-foam mattresses do a great job of isolating motion at its source. You’ll notice very little movement spreading from one end of the bed to the other, especially on the Casper.

Edge Support

Neither the Casper nor the Puffy has any special edge support features, but we think they both keep you fairly well supported. With that said, we noticed a little more sinkage along the edges of the Puffy.

Pressure Relief

Casper delivers pressure relief particularly well near the head and foot of the bed, thanks to Zoned Support in its memory foam transition layer. The Puffy may feel a little firmer at first, but it softens up quite a bit the longer you lie on the mattress surface.

Pain Relief

The Puffy evenly distributes the weight of back sleepers, particularly those weighing under 130 lbs, so they shouldn’t develop new back pain on the mattress. With a soft comfort layer that cushions the body and a Zoned Support transition layer, the Casper is designed to keep the spine properly supported in every sleeping position.
