Tempur-Pedic vs. Sleep Number Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences
The Tempur-Pedic 3.5/5
With decades of expertise making memory foam beds, it’s hard to not love TEMPUR-Pedic. The TEMPUR-Adapt is the baseline memory foam mattress model they offer and is sure to deliver a return on your investment.
The Sleep Number 3.9/5
The Sleep Number 360 c2 is an air bed that adjusts to your preferred firmness level, so you can find the perfect firmness for your body type and sleeping position. It comes with a remote so that you can adjust the amount of air with just a click.
Temperature
Tempur-Pedic’s memory foam mattresses offer exceptional comfort, but they can also cause sleepers to feel wrapped up in the material, making it difficult to stay cool through the night. Sleep Number’s mattress construction, which includes a layer of air chambers, makes it a better option for hot sleepers.
Motion Transfer
Couples that share a bed find it frustrating when their partner tosses and turns because of the motion transfer. Tempur-Pedic beds, which incorporate memory foam, are known for their motion isolation, meaning less disturbance for sleeping couples. Sleep Number beds make some of the best mattresses for couples by allowing them to personalize their firmness on each side with two separate mattresses, so motion transfer is almost nonexistent.
Edge Support
Edge Support is an important factor to consider for people who have trouble getting in or out of bed. Tempur-Pedic beds with spring coils have much more spring support, providing much greater edge support, than their pure memory foam counterparts. Sleep Number mattresses can vary with their edge support depending on the level of inflation in the air chambers, but beds with thicker top layers tend to have less-than-favorable edge support.
Pressure Relief
Tempur-Pedic mattresses and their memory foam construction have excellent contouring properties, meaning reduced pain in pressure points and increased pressure relief. Sleep Number beds with thicker comfort layers have been reported as offering better responsiveness and relief from pressure points, but Tempur-Pedic is ultimately the better option.
Pain Relief
Tempur-Pedic mattresses’ responsiveness promotes healthy spine alignment, resulting in less stress on pressure points and much better sleep. Sleep Number’s customizable firmness allows for optimal spinal alignment. Check out our list of the best mattress for stomach sleepers & the best mattress for back sleepers for other mattresses designed to protect the spine and hips in multiple positions.
Durability
Both mattresses come with long warranties, but Sleep Number surpasses Tempur-Pedic’s 10-year warranty with a 25-year period. The specialized memory foam used in the Tempur-Pedic construction prevents your mattress from sagging over time, while Sleep Number’s adjustability also allows for an increased level of durability. Tempur-Pedic’s hybrid option is ideal for heavier sleepers due to the incorporated spring coils, which will prevent sagging in the long term.
Shipping, Returns, & Warranties
Tempur-Pedic
There are several prominent differences when it comes to shipping and returns between Tempur-Pedic and Sleep Number mattresses. Tempur-Pedic beds have a $25 shipping fee, which includes white-glove delivery.
After your Tempur-Adapt bed has arrived, you’ll have 90 days to try it out, and at any point during that trial you can return your mattress for a full-refund. You can also request an old mattress removal, which is included in the shipping fee.
Once you’ve decided to keep your Tempur-Adapt, you’ll receive a 10-year limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects and indentations, or sagging, of over 0.75” in depth.
However, this warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or any abuse (including putting the mattress on an incorrect bed frame), and it does not apply to anyone but the original buyer or anyone who purchased the mattress through Amazon.
Sleep Number
Sleep Number beds come with standard shipping for $89.99, or white-glove delivery for $199. If you choose the white-glove delivery option, your old mattress is taken away at no extra cost. With both mattress companies, customers are responsible for return shipping costs.
Sleep Number gives you 100 trial nights to test drive their beds. All of the SmartBed 360® mattresses we mention here are covered by a 25-year limited warranty for defects in materials or workmanship. It’s prorated (refunds will decrease the longer you’ve used the mattress) after two years.
