If you’re considering the hybrid DreamCloud and all-foam Bear mattresses, we’re here to help. We’ve put each mattress through rigorous testing in our sleep lab to help you find out which model is best for you. To learn more about how we grade a mattress, read about our mattress reviews.
DreamCloud vs. Bear Overview
The DreamCloud is a hybrid mattress, made from foam and innerspring coils. This medium-firm mattress performed above-average in our testing, so we’d recommend it for most sleepers. The all-foam Bear delivers great value for back and stomach sleepers under 230 lbs, with superior performance in the pressure relief and responsiveness categories.
DreamCloud is best for… | Bear is best for… |
Couples | Shoppers on a Budget |
Hot Sleepers | People with Active Lifestyles |
Back Sleepers | Sleepers who Prefer All-Foam |
Who Should Choose the DreamCloud Mattress?
- Couples: If you share a bed, there are a few things you need for an undisturbed night of sleep and the DreamCloud checks these boxes: cooling features, isolating motion to its source, and edge support (which increases usable space).
- Hot Sleepers: The DreamCloud’s top layer of gel-infused foam draws heat away and the coils below circulate airflow, making it cooler than other foam mattresses.
- Back Sleepers: Hybrid mattresses typically do a good job supporting back sleepers and the DreamCloud is no different.
Who Should Choose the Bear Mattress?
- Shoppers on a Budget: Bear has a “good, better, best” lineup of mattresses, if you will. The original Bear mattress is the “good” buy and most affordable, even making our list of best mattresses under $1000.
- People with Active Lifestyles: The Bear mattress has a unique hand-quilted Celliant cover. Say what? It’s a polyester blend infused with Celliant fibers. Bear boasts this technology absorbs body heat, reflecting it back as light. This may increase oxygenation and even improve muscle recovery.
- Sleepers who Prefer All-Foam: If you love memory foam, but need to move around more easily, i.e., seniors, combination sleepers, the Bear delivers the cushiony feel plus a bit of a bounce.
DreamCloud vs. Bear Overview: Top Similarities
- Responsiveness: If you change sleeping positions at night, a responsive mattress is key—these movements don’t need to wake you. Both of these mattresses have a slight bounce which means you’ll be able to move around easily.
- Back and Stomach Sleepers: For lightweight and average-weight sleepers, the DreamCloud and Bear’s medium-firm rating offer cushion and relief, plus support for a healthy spine alignment.
- Lifetime Warranty: Regardless of which mattress your choose, both companies back their workmanship with a lifetime warranty.
DreamCloud vs. Bear Overview: Top Differences
- Price: Sleep is vital to overall health, so you want to get value from your purchase. We’re here to help you decide which mattress is a better fit for you, especially since they are so different in price.
- Mattress Height: The DreamCloud is a thicker mattress, measuring 14” compared to Bear’s 10” profile.
- Temperature: Both mattresses address heat concerns, but the hybrid DreamCloud’s coils that increase airflow will provide a noticeably cooler night.
DreamCloud vs. Bear Overview: Firmness & Feel Differences
Our Mattress Nerd firmness scale ranges from 1 to 10, where 1 is the softest and 10 is like sleeping on the floor. Both the DreamCloud and Bear mattress fall into the medium-firm range, but weight and preferred sleeping position will greatly affect your impression since the materials are different.
What’s the Firmness Of the DreamCloud & Bear Mattresses?
Very close in firmness, the DreamCloud scores 6.5/10 and the Bear a 7/10. Lightweight side sleepers won’t receive the full relief from the memory foam since you’ll likely rest atop the DreamCloud, but other weight categories should be fine. This hybrid mattress is a great match for the needs of back sleepers, as well as stomach sleepers under 230 lbs.
The Bear is slightly firmer, but its all-foam construction isn’t ideal for those weighing over 230 lbs. Otherwise, most back and stomach sleepers will appreciate the cushion and support.
What Do the DreamCloud & Bear Mattresses Feel Like?
The DreamCloud’s cover is quilted from a cashmere and foam blend. The mattress showcases the benefits of a true hybrid—cradling of memory foam plus the firm support of the coil layer. Our testers felt they were resting “on” the mattress, not getting stuck “in” it.
The Bear’s top foam layers provide cushion and pressure relief while the high-density foam base creates a “floating” feeling when lying on the mattress. For an all-foam bed, the Bear is surprisingly bouncy. Check out our ease of movement testing in this Bear mattress review video where we bounce a Lacrosse ball on the surface.
What’s It Like to Sleep On the DreamCloud & Bear Mattresses?
Sleeping position is a huge factor when mattress shopping. It’s about you and how you experience the firmness and feel. The medium-firmness of both of these mattresses makes them a good investment if you prefer your back, and even for stomach sleepers weighing less than 230 lbs. The DreamCloud additionally meets the needs of heavyweight back sleepers thanks to the support layer of innerspring coils.
Side sleepers need more cushion and pressure relief than these two models provide. And heavyweight stomach sleepers benefit from a mattress that is firm enough to keep their hips elevated, so take a look at these best mattresses for heavy people instead.
The DreamCloud vs. Bear Mattresses By Body Type
DreamCloud Performance By Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 2 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 3.5 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 5 | 2 | 4 |
Bear Performance By Sleeping Position:
Body Type: | BACK SLEEPERS | STOMACH SLEEPERS | SIDE SLEEPERS |
---|---|---|---|
Lightweight (< 130 lbs): | 5 | 5 | 2 |
Average weight (130 – 230 lbs): | 5 | 4 | 3 |
Heavyweight (> 230 lbs): | 3 | 2 | 3 |
1 = Very poor, 2 = Not good, 3 = Fair, 4 = Good, 5 = Excellent
Average-Weight Sleepers (130–230 lbs)
The DreamCloud is great for combination sleepers (those who toss and turn) in this weight category. Back and stomach sleepers will especially notice superior performance, but even if you rest on your side some, you’ll feel the contour of the gel-infused memory foam.
Similarly, if you love sleeping on your back or front, you should sleep well on the Bear. Side sleepers might instead look for a softer mattress to get adequate pressure relief in the hips and shoulders, like one from our list of best mattresses for side sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers (> 230 lbs)
Neither of these beds has what it takes if you are a heavyweight sleeper who prefers your stomach. You’ll want a firmer mattress that will keep your hips elevated. While the DreamCloud holds up quite well for back, side, or combination sleepers, we don’t recommend the all-foam Bear for anyone over 230 lbs.
Lightweight Sleepers (< 130 lbs)
Back and stomach sleepers weighing less than 130 lbs will appreciate the stellar contouring and support of both the DreamCloud and Bear mattresses—they received perfect marks in these categories. But if you love sleeping on your side, you’ll stay atop the foam layer and likely not find pressure relief for your shoulders and hips. Look for a softer mattress instead.
Differences In Mattress Construction
Measuring 14” in height, the DreamCloud is several layers of foam atop coils. Bear’s all-foam mattress is 10” thick with a special cover that boasts muscle recovery properties, as well as three layers of foam.
DreamCloud Mattress Materials | Bear Mattress Materials |
---|---|
Quilted Cover (foam and cashmere blend) | Hand-Quilted Celliant Fiber Cover (polyester blend) |
Gel-infused Memory Foam | Memory Foam Layer (graphite-infused cooling gel) |
Foam Transition Layer | Foam Transition Layer |
Support Coils (individually wrapped steel coils) | High-density Support Foam Layer |
Base Foam Layer |
Cover
The cashmere cover makes a great first impression. The softness mimics that cloud-like feel of its brand name. Not to be outdone, the Bear model has a unique Celliant mattress cover. A polyester blend infused with Celliant fiber to provide…muscle recovery. How? The company asserts that the fibers absorb your body heat, reflecting it back as light. Light increases blood flow which helps your achy muscles.
Comfort Layers
So heat doesn’t collect in the memory foam, the comfort layers of both mattresses use gel-infused foam designed to dissipate heat. Both of these materials are also quite responsive, even bouncy vs. the typical “hug” of memory foam.
Support Layers
The DreamCloud’s coil layer has a foam transition layer above and below. This keeps you from sinking into the coils, as well as increases durability. The all-foam Bear has a high-density foam layer designed to increase stability and durability.

DreamCloud vs. Bear Mattress Performance Ratings & Differences
Temperature
DreamCloud’s comfort layer has gel-infused foam which is meant to draw heat away from your body. Its base coil layer also creates airflow. These two features combined do a much better job than the all-foam Bear mattress, which has its own graphite-gel memory foam to address temperature. But if you truly struggle with sleeping hot, instead shop our best cooling mattresses.
Motion Transfer
The DreamCloud has 4.5″ of foam before reaching the coil base layer, so it excels at isolating motion. This is good news if you share the bed—their movement shouldn’t wake you. In contrast, the all-foam Bear is pretty bouncy and might be a deal breaker if you’re a light sleeper.
Edge Support
Edge support is a mattress term referring to how much or little a mattress sags at the edges. You may use the edge to tie your shoes or get up and down slowly. Couples may want to use the full size of their mattress for sleeping, and a supportive edge makes this possible. Both mattresses felt supportive to our testers when lying and sitting on the edges. And the DreamCloud Original even made our list of best mattresses for seniors.
Pressure Relief
The DreamCloud memory foam will cradle your body, especially at those points where pressure collects like the hips, shoulders, and tailbone, as long as you weigh more than 130 lbs. Lightweight sleepers might rest on top of the comfort layer, potentially missing out on the same relief.
When we rolled out our pressure map on the Bear Original, it showed great results for even distribution, especially for such a firm mattress. Despite this, we still would recommend a softer mattress for side sleepers who might find their hips and shoulders a little tighter after sleeping on the Bear.
Pain Relief
Back pain can be caused by a mattress that sags, or doesn’t support your spine. For stomach sleepers (< 230 lbs), the DreamCloud made our list as one of the best mattresses for back pain. And its coil base is nice and firm for back sleepers, no matter your weight.
With three levels of foam, the Bear is a welcoming cushion at bedtime. It also is a firm enough mattress that, for most back and stomach sleepers, it aids good spinal alignment–key in avoiding back pain. It’s still not ideal for side sleepers who will likely want more cushion.
Durability
Both brands produce high-quality mattresses that should easily make it to the 7-year mark, which is the recommended age to replace your mattress.

Our Final Take
Both the DreamCloud and Bear mattresses are aimed at meeting the needs of back, stomach, and combination sleepers under 230 lbs. The quality difference comes down to price and a few performance features. Both deliver stellar pressure relief and ease of movement, making the budget-friendly Bear a great value. But if you move around, share the bed, or tend to sleep hot, the DreamCloud will likely exceed your expectations.
DreamCloud vs. Bear FAQs
How many years does the DreamCloud mattress last?
Innerspring coil mattresses are known for durability, so the hybrid DreamCloud gives the best of both worlds—the cushion of memory foam with a long-lasting coil base. It should last you around 10 years, but if problems arise, you can follow up with the company easily thanks to their Lifetime warranty.
Is the DreamCloud mattress worth the cost?
The DreamCloud qualifies as a luxury, hotel-quality bed. But will you get what you pay for? That depends on your unique sleeping needs. For back sleepers, hot sleepers, or those who share the bed with a person/pet that moves a lot, you’re going to appreciate the DreamCloud’s superior performance.
Is a Bear mattress worth it?
Even at an affordable price point, the Bear mattress has a lot to offer. While we can’t verify the claims about the Celliant fibers speeding up muscle recovery, our testers agree it is a great value for back and stomach sleepers who weigh less than 230 lbs.
