Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel
Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Firmness
At Mattress Nerd we like to test mattress firmness on a simple scale of 1–10, where a 1 is softer than sleeping on a cloud, and a 10 is harder than the floor. With that in mind, the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid mattress clocks in at a medium-firm 6/10.
This firmness level is pretty standard and will work for the average sleepers. That said, if you’re a lightweight side sleeper, you may want a little more softness. And, if you’re a heavyweight stomach sleeper, you’ll need more firmness.
What Does the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Feel Like?
This Tempur-Pedic bed may be a hybrid mattress, but it still has the classic memory foam feel; it’s slow and feels liquidy under neither you. However, since this mattress is a hybrid, you don’t get the same deep, contouring “sink” you’d get from an all-foam bed. Instead, this mattress feels a bit more lifted.
In terms of temperature, this hybrid bed feels cool to the touch, and it stays cool throughout the night. While many all-foam bed traps and build up body heat, the Tempur-Cloud feels more airy and cool.
What Sleeping Position Is Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Best For?
Body Type: | Back Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers |
Lightweight< 130 lbs: | 5 | 5 | 4 |
Average-weight130–230 lbs: | 5 | 4 | 4 |
Heavyweight> 230 lbs: | 5 | 3 | 3 |
1 = Very poor 2 = Not good 3 = Fair 4 = Good 5 = Excellent
Back Sleepers
The best mattresses for back sleepers do their job by cradling and supporting the lower back, which improves spine alignment—keeping its natural “S” curve. With the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid, you’ll get enough firmness and lift to keep your back from sinking and slouching, but also enough softness to cushion your back, regardless of whether you’re a lightweight, average-weight, or heavyweight sleeper.
Side Sleepers
Next up is side sleepers who need the most softness to prevent pressure from building up against their shoulders and hips. So, if you’re a lightweight or average-weight sleeper, the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid should do a decent job at contouring to your body, while heavyweight side sleepers will likely find that they’re not getting enough support.

Stomach Sleepers
Unlike side sleepers, the best mattresses for stomach sleepers are usually the firmest. This is because stomach sleepers need a mattress that will keep their hips from sinking down. And, since the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid is a medium-firm bed, it’ll feel most solid for lightweight sleepers, less supportive for average-weight, and a little too sinking for heavyweight sleepers.
Combination Sleepers
If you’re a combination sleeper, then you tend to change position throughout the night and need a bed that lets you do so easily. However, even though the Tempur-Cloud has bouncy coils in its hybrid design, this mattress’s thick foam layers make it difficult to move around on, regardless of whether you’re a lightweight, average-weight, or heavyweight combination sleeper.

Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Performance
Is the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Cooling?
Hybrid beds are some of the best cooling mattresses because their coils offer great breathability and ventilation. The same is true for the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid; even though this bed has several layers of foam, hotter sleepers shouldn’t have any issues.
Edge Support
Edge support is how well your bed can support someone sitting or lying on its edges without making the bed sag. This can be especially important for seniors and couples. In this case, the Tempur-Cloud’s foam layers just don’t hold up. So, if being able to spread out across your whole bed, or sit on its edges is a dealbreaker for you, then the Tempur-Cloud may not be the best fit.

Responsiveness
Responsiveness is how easy it is to move across your bed, or how much “bounce” it has. For combination sleepers, this is a top priority. That said, the Tempur-Cloud’s foamy, sinking feel doesn’t quite cut it.
Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?
Foam mattresses are known for having great motion isolation, and the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid has a lot of foam. Essentially, motion isolation is how well your bed absorbs and muffles unwanted movement on the bed (like your partner getting up earlier than you). So, if you’re planning on sharing your next mattress, the Tempur-Cloud is definitely worth considering.

Noise
Beds with springs can be squeaky and loud, but foam is as quiet as it gets. With the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid, you won’t hear a thing from this mattress’s silent pocketed coils and soft foam.
Pain Relief
Mattress with foam designs are known for offering great pain relief and body contouring. With the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid, you’ll get the best pain relief if you’re a back sleeper, thanks to the mattress’ medium-firm feel and supportive foam.

Sex
The best mattresses for sex are quiet, cooling, and responsive. While the Tempur-Cloud has the first two down, this mattress isn’t at all responsive. So, we’re going to have to give this Tempur-Pedic bed a thumbs down.
Off-Gassing
Off-gassing is the “new mattress smell” that you get when you first unbox your new bed. While foam mattresses can have a noticeable odor, the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid shouldn’t have a noticeable smell.
Durability
Thanks to this mattress’s supportive coils and sturdy foam base layer, the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid is a durable bed. The only thing we can really take a point off for is its subpar edge support.
Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Construction: What’s it made of?
The Tempur-Cloud Hybrid is the hybrid alternative to the all-foam Tempur-Cloud mattress. This bed measures in at 10 inches tall, and it has several layers of supportive, cooling foam, along with over 1,000 coils and a high-density foam base.
Layer #1: Stretch Mattress Cover—This top layer of the Tempur-Cloud is made from a premium, moisture-wicking fabric that feels cool to the touch, regulates your body temperature throughout the night, and airs away unwanted moisture and sweat.
Layer #2: Tempur Comfort Layer—Next is a layer of soft memory foam that provides a softness and pressure relief as it contours to your body.
Layer #3: Tempur Support Layer—After that, there’s a support layer of contouring foam that’s firmer and thicker than the layer above. This support layer offers some firmness and helps you feel lifted as you sleep.
Layer #4: Coil Support Layer—This layer of over 1,000 coils, along with the above foam support layer, keeps sleepers from sinking down too far into the bed and allows easier movement.
Layer #5: Foam Base Layer—Finally, at the bottom of this hybrid bed is a high-density layer of foam that makes the mattress more durable and firm.

Addressing Tempur-Cloud Hybrid Mattress Complaints
Too Hot
Some customers complained that the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid mattress felt too hot while they slept on it. Although some beds with memory foam in their construction can trap and radiate heat, the Tempur-Cloud’s hybrid design allows for more breathability and cooling.
Hip Pain
A few side sleepers who bought the Tempur-Cloud Hybrid mattress complained that they experienced hip pain while sleeping on it. In our own tests for this bed, we did find that heavyweight side sleepers may find this Tempur-Pedic bed less comfortable due to a lack of support and pressure relief on the hips and shoulders.
